Good day. Accidentally I've found this forum! I think I can classify myself as a beginner - I've took guitar lessons for six or seven months last year, but I was extremely lazy student so this doesn't matter at all. BYCU book helped me to find motivation to improve my guitar technique, so I was studying with it last two months. So far I've learned #3,4,5,6,8,10,12,13. Couple of weeks ago I decided to start recording my progress.
First one was More Minor Blues. There are obvious rhythm fails and now I realize that Chorus effect was unnecessary. #13 - More Minor Blues
Next one was Bends, Slides and Shifts. Guitar tone is absolutely crap (too dark, too much fuzziness etc), also I think I've played it very dirty. #8 - Bends, Slides and Shifts
Three days ago I recorded Double Stop Stomp. Obviosly my picking was too heavy and guitar tone again isn't great (too much Mid on neck pickup... That was bad choice) #5 - Double Stop Stomp
Tonight I was trying to play Minor Blues in a correct way (at least rhythmically ) but I'm always failing at random places. I think this is one of the best takes done by far, but bends are pretty crap and there is at least one major rhythm fail. #12 - Minor Blues (first attempt, 24 October 2014)
#12 - Minor Blues (final one I guess, 25 October 2014)
#6 - Delta Mood (very spontaneous )
#3 - True Blue (attempt, 30 October 2014)
#10 - Lazy Day Blues (first attempt, 28 October 2014) #10 - Lazy Day Blues (final, 4 November 2014)
#14 - Major Blues (11 November 2014) To be continued... Any feedback is highly appreciated.

Silverthorne - hello and welcome to the forums! It's great to have a new person posting their songs here! I listened to all your stuff and I'm highly impressed! The first three were just outstanding, I didn't notice any real problems with timing at all (well there's little nitpciky stuff but very few, and overall the songs flow very well and your average listener wouldn't notice any imperfections at all ). As far as your guitar tone, I agree that maybe the chorus was unnecessary on the first one and there was maybe a bit too much distortion on the second one, but that's purely a matter of personal taste. I remember when I recorded Delta Child and I used a ton of distortion, delay and reverb and was really happy with that sound, but the other folks here who recorded it went for a much cleaner sound, and they were obviously happy with their sounds as well - so don't worry too much about it Getting the perfect sound for a song is just another skill you develop over time and with experience working with your equipment. I thought your tone on the third one was great. Minor Blues sounds pretty nice as far as timing - with those slow blues songs it's really hard to play it exactly like the CD because it's so much a matter of feel and interpretation. It's not like right vs. wrong it's more a matter of feel really. Bends were a little off but hey, welcome the club Bends are one of the most challenging and time consuming things for all of us to achieve. But hey great job Silverthorne, and once again welcome! Hope you stick around and post a lot more stuff in the future.

jack1982 wow, thanks for such kind words Of course I will keep posting! After completing Minor Blues I think Lazy Day one will be next... or maybe I'll record all remaining intermediate level tunes like True blue, Delta mood etc first.

Lazy Day Blues has always been a favorite of mine and speaking of tone, I'd kill for the tone John gets on that song I also love Delta Mood, those delta blues songs have always held a special place in my heart, they've just got a hard edge to them that's really appealing to me

Welcome to the forum! it's great with new members sharing recordings.
Like Jack, I also enjoyed your recordings - you seem to be very confident doing recordings. That was a major hurdle for me when I joined the forum.
Keep the recordings coming!

Silverthorne, Welcome to the forum. We definitely need some more participation here. All 4 of the videos you posted were pretty well played. Your timing is good, and IMHO that is the most important thing after playing the right notes. One area that you need to work on is bends. You'll find that bends get a lot of comments here, because we all have problems getting them to pitch. Can you tell us about the equipment you used to make the video and recording? Keep the videos coming. Recording yourself is the best way to track your progress. And posting them to a forum like this gives you a goal to try and play them as well as you possibly can.

Hello everyone Thanks for the feedback. Can you tell us about the equipment you used to make the video and recording? Yes, of course. The guitar is Fender american deluxe mahogany strat (afair 2*tex mex singles + diamondback humbucker, it has S1 switch as well) My usb interface is Avid fast track solo; Webcam is Logitech C920 (laptop default camera in first two videos, so quality is not really good); First and second video (#13 MMB, #8 BSS) were recorded with Guitar rig 5 only; In the third and fourth (#5 DSS and #12 MB attempt ) I was using Reaper + Peavey ReValver MKIII.V as VST Now I think that the best option atm will be Reaper + Guitar Rig 5 as VST Realtime "reamping" is awesome feature, and GR5 provides incredible amount of amp/effect chain combinations. It's pretty cool that you can record one take and try so many different tones to discover which one fits best. Also I have Marshall SL-5 all-tube amp and It sounds great especially on clean tones, but since I havent' bought something like SM57 yet it's useless for now in purpose of recording.

Recorded another Minor Blues take (neck pickup + slightly modified Clean white GR5 preset), of course it can be way better, but if I play it one more time - my brain will explode. I think I should relax and record something like Delta mood or Swinging the blues next

Really nice playing there Silverthorne, your guitar tone is fabulous, love it! Bends still need a little work, but hey I've been working on them for 6 months or so now and they're still a work in progress I hear ya about your brain being about ready to explode, that's exactly how I feel about the song I'm working on in Rhythm and Blues you can use LOL Sometimes it's best to just take a couple days off from the song and work on something else, and come back to it again later if you want to. Wanna keep the guitar playing fun!

Silverthorne I finally got a chance to listen to all the vids and I have to say I am jealous you learned all these in 2 or 3 months, I have been working on this book for 5 months and most of recordings are no where near this good. Great job.

Great job. Thanks for great feedback. Well, I still have major problems with playing fast double stops. It is pretty noticeable on my #5 DSS recording, and I am experiencing even more problems with it in #4 Swinging the blues. I just can't decide, which way is better to play 55-77-88-77-55 part in this study - with my index finger for all three positions, with index for 55 and ring for 77-88, or even index for 55, ring for 77 and pinky for 88. Anyway, I can't properly synchronize my hands and there is lack of smoothness and dead notes appear in 80% of takes...

Excellent job, great tone too. For me delta mood was my best recording. How long have you been playing? You seem to be knocking these out pretty fast and easy. Have you checked out the book more Blues You Can Use? It is the following book from BYCU, and is quite a bit more challenging you might need to be checking that out if you not finding these tunes challenging enough. Any excellent video.

Thanks for good feedback, honestly I didn't practice Delta Mood at all - I've learned it about a month ago in one evening and then continued my practice with something like More Minor blues, Lazy day blues etc. What about my overall guitar experience - I am playing electric guitar on-and-off for about a year, but as I mentioned before (in starting post), I was too lazy to make some good progress. Today's session was first time when I played Delta Mood with backing track. And yeah... I checked MBYCU book and I think it is necessary to complete BYCU first Even first MBYCU studies are too challenging for my technique atm.

Silverthorne,
You played "Delta Mood" very nicely. You are progressing very fast. How often and for how long do you normally practice?
If you don't mind me asking. What country do you live in? From your posting times I'm guessing you are somewhere in Europe. Rich (aka cunningr) and I both live in Spain, but unfortunately not close to each other.
