You did a great job on that Tbone! I've been working on that song for about 2 weeks now and it is definitely a workout For those double stop bends I've been using my 3rd and 4th fingers just because it seems I can keep the two notes in tune with each other a bit better that way, but that's just personal preference. If you want some constructive criticism, it sounds like you're bending those double stops too far, they're just a quarter step. And after the double stop bends you've kind of made up your own melody with the next few bends Sounds nice actually but it's not quite the way it is on the CD. In the intro, some of the bends are flat and others are sharp. You're timing sounds pretty darned good throughout, just a few hiccups here and there that you'll probably get straightened out as you continue to practice it. But really good job overall!

I can certainly relate about the bends, I'm about the last person in the world who should criticize anyone else's bends LOL That's the main thing that's kept me from posting a version of this song, especially that full step bend on the 8th fret B string in bar 11; that stands out like a sore thumb if it's not quite right and I get it right maybe once out of 5 times Oh and don't worry about funny faces, some of the best guitarists do it

Jesus, T-Bone, could you make your uploads any more difficult to find? My prescription is to take 2 capsules of "Bend to Pitch, Bitch" and call me in the morning. I all seriousness, well done. I cant' wait for the full tempo version of "Rockin' ....". It's going to be awhile before I record that one. Phil

Tbone, nice job on that - you've been practicing! One thing for constructive criticism - and I only notice it because I'd do EXACTLY the same thing myself - but in bar 11 starting with the second note, you're a beat late with that lick. And just like me our bends still need a bit of work too But yeah this is the sort of song you can practice for weeks to get all the mistakes ironed out at full speed. You've done a heck of a good job on it, especially considering it was only a couple of days ago you posted your slower version.

Wow, Tbone! Nice job on that one. I agree with Jack, your practice is paying off nicely.

T-Bone, It took me a while, but I finally found it. Can't you date these so that they go to the end? O.K, overall it was pretty good but still needs some work. That full bend in measure 2 beat 3 of the intro gets a BTPB. Things also sounded a little rushed or something at the end of the intro and beginning of the chorus. I can't figure out what Jack is referring to, but since he is very familiar with the tune I'll defer to him. Keep up the good work. Between you and Jack you are giving me something to work towards. Tbone, right now the vast majority of my time is spent working on the books - almost finished with BYCU, though lesson 21 is about taking solos that were in one pentatonic box and figuring out how to play them in the other boxes, which I think will be a tremendous learning exercise and quite time consuming as well; also working on one or two songs in More BYCU, and working my way through R&B You Can Use as well as Blues Rhythms. Oh and the jazz book too. I also spend some time improvising, basically recording myself playing rhythm parts and then jamming over them. I'm saving up for a bass guitar, hopefully get that around the end of August, and after that I'd like to get a good drum program like EZ Drummer. Then I can start doing some full arrangements of the songs in More BYCU, R&B You Can Use and the rhythm book. And also, then I won't have any excuse not to write my own songs. I just started playing again a couple of months ago and figure I'll spend until the end of August working on getting my technique in shape (perhaps even learn to bend to pitch by then and then I can get into writing and arranging my own stuff. That's pretty much my long-term goal right now - get ten or so good original songs written and recorded.

Tbone, Thanks for the videos, I have been stuck on lesson 2, the part after the run. What I hear on the practice cd sounded different than the tab, watching the video sorted me out. Thanks.

Sounding pretty good there Tbone! I know what you mean about a lack of motivation to practice, I'm having a bad case of that today too Oh and I'm not nearly done with the R&B book, I just started lesson 4 about a half hour ago and 14 more lessons to go after that one. Those songs are hard too - I thought this 4th one was going to be fairly challenging and then I realized oh, I'm just trying to play along with the slow tempo version lol.

Hi all! Well, I probably shouldn't post what's not at its best yet, but I guess then I shouldn't post at all... so I decided to upload my renditions on BYCU's "Delta Child" and BRYCU's "Triplet Stormy Rhythm"... that's where it's at with my playing of those tunes right now, obviously a lot of polishing is necessary... however, I need to move on as I suffer a lack of motivation for proper practice, I hope a new tune will serve as incentive... also, I think Jack has already finished RnBYCU, need to catch up @ Phil: Sorry, everything's to be found on page 1 of this thread, I dunno how to change that... so, guys, comments are welcome. Greetings, t. OK, T-Bone, it took me all afternoon, but I found your upload of "Delta Child". Sounds very good. You do that full bend on the G string with no apparent effort. I still think it would be nice to have a sub-forum dedicated to video and audio uploads so they are easy to find.

Nah I'm lazy today. I need to get that second song in MBYCU recorded one of these days, been working on that for about a month now lol. Come on Jack. Are you telling me that you need more than an hour and a half to get that study down? "Drivin' Blues." That's a good one. Make sure you're comfortable playing this slowly before moving on to the full tempo version. Then it's on to "Cheap Runs." Now, that one looks like a real challenge. I'm kind of hoping you get stuck on that long enough for me to catch up. I'm expecting to rap up BYCU by the end of the month and then move on to "More Tortuous Blues Studies I Might Be Able to Use if I Ever Learn Them." I've been looking through the book and I really like that he's tabbed out the rhythm guitar for each study. Divide the cost of "More BYCU" by the amount of material in it and I don't think you'll get more bang for your buck anywhere. I'm looking forward to hearing your rendition of "Drivin' Blues." Phil

I'm comfortable playing it slowly, I'm even comfortable playing it moderately fast; trouble is the full tempo version is really fast. Those darned double stops at the end are really awkward and you've got about a dozen of them in one second or so. Then there's those little slide up / down licks on the G and E strings - I either miss the strings with my pick, don't get the note on the high E fretted in time to play it, and on the rare occasions I manage to get both of those things right, I'll accidentally get a bit of my thumb on my picking hand against one of the strings and mute it. AARGH! I ordered a harmonica last night - maybe I'll just switch to playing that lol. Then you guys can listen to me doing flat bends on a second instrument. Phil when you finish up BYCU we'll have a big party for you, with booze and women and a police raid at the end.

Tony,
Great job! Just listened to Delta Child, your full speed take on Rockin and Rollin, and your Triplet Stormy Rhythm. You are really taking your playing up several notches. I am very impressed with these. Keep up the good work.

T,
Great work on "Jump Blues" and "Rockin' Boogie"! That "Jump Blues" rhythm is one you hear in lots of blues albums. Enjoyed hearing those, and very good, clean rhythm playing!

Wow great job on both of those Tbone! Really enjoyed listening to them. Great timing and great feel. Hey what happened to the funny faces you used to make? I miss those

I also enjoyed those, as well as all the other videos... It's a great help for starting a new study - or when you get stuck - to see how others have played it. Would it be possible to shift the camera a little, so that the fretting board isn't clipped?
Thanks for sharing all these.
