Today is the deadline for submitting our versions of "Lazy Day Blues" Looks like I'm not going to come thru with a recording on time. Damn, late with my homework still, after all these years... Even without putting up a recording, I enjoyed digging out BYCU and dusting this one off. I think it's good practice, even if you don't find the time to make a recording. I'll hang with you guys on these reviews, but I'm not sure my time situation (or lack thereof, more specifically) will be much better for the next several months. Bruce You can always post something later if you find the time Bruce, it's all just for fun anyway. Of course we will expect an extra good performance since you'll have had more time to work on it I totally agree about this being good practice, this song let me concentrate almost exclusively on the bends and I certainly need plenty of work on those.

Phil - that was awesome! A real showcase of technique, concepts, and lessons learned. I would be interested in hearing about your method of adding your own parts. Did you tab it out first, or just jam along to work out the parts? I like how your parts take the laid back feel of the first chorus, ramp it up a bit in intensity, and then bring it back into that laid back, lazy day feel at the end. Nice work. Thanks, everyone, for the positive comments. Chris, I added my own parts to this one the same way I did with " Jumpin' Blues Extended." I have a long commute to work (1.5 hrs each way). I turned off the radio and just came up with ideas in my head. I just imagined myself playing something over the chord changes. Of course, those ideas slip from my memory pretty fast, so when I got one that sounded good in my head I repeated it over and over again. The easiest was the 1st 4 bars. Now, once I had it clear in my head I tried to play it on the guitar. That's the tough part. In the process of trying to play it I would stumble upon a better idea. It was back and forth through this process until I had something I liked. I couldn't even play some of my ideas. I had to back-pedal and find something simpler. I'm sure a pro could've come up with something much better in about 10 minutes. This took me hours. Bruce, In Reaper I cut and pasted 12 bar sections into an empty track to extend the backing track. It was a matter of pasting in 12 bars 2 more times to reach 4 choruses total. I don't know quite how to do it properly. If you listen carefully you'll here a little blip where the pieces are pasted together.

I need to find a longer backing track so I can try some improv after the main piece. Anyhow, here's my replay of the rendition. Seems I have a "way" I play, comparing the old and the new they seem very similar, though, this time I added in a few slide-outs and greater pauses between bits which I felt allowed the backing to come through more. Ok, inspired by Phil and his awesome improv I just had another go at Lazy Day Blues with improv. so first chorus is Lazy Day Blues and second chorus is improv. I guess for me I hope I can carry the feel of the piece in my improv. I want my stuff to fit eith the feel and flow and not just sound like badly thrown in licks that don't work over what's happening in the piece. Would really appreciate your thoughts on this daunting and scary step-out for me. soundcloud.com/wannalearnguitar/bycu-lazy-day-blues-improv-2015-07-12

WPB, A big round of applause! That was great! The 1st chorus was right on the money, and your improve fit in perfectly. Well done!

I second that your part integrated very smoothly, loved the tone. Only thing inthought you may have missed a bend just before the improv, could just be me though. I am impressed you Phil blew it out of the water, already have thinking on what to do for the next shot
