Mention the Dylan tune All Along The Watchtower and most people will immediately think of the Hendrix version that is heard on the local classic rock station. What most don't know is that Jimi was friends with Dave Mason, co-founder of Traffic. Just before Jimi recorded his version of the now classic song, he heard Dave rehearsing his version with his band. If you will look at the credits of Jimi's song, you will find Dave is credited as playing rhythm on the song and may indicate that Dave had some creative input on Jimi's version.
Here is Dave's version that he released in 1974 and then the version that we are familiar with by Jimi. People probably think that Dave did his version as a tribute to Jimi or that he was trying to copy Hendrix.
If you have a chance to see Dave in concert, he is a great performer. To me, he has one of the finest voices in rock & roll
What is your thoughts on Dave's version?

I had to post the Bob Dylan version too.
I liked Dave Masons version, loved the vocals on it. I may need to go find some Dave Mason music now and check out his other stuff. thanks for sharing.

Search on You Tube for: Dave Mason Full Album. Several of his older albums are available.
If you can find it, Dave Mason Live at XM Satellite Radio would be a good one to buy but it is hard to find. The individual songs are posted on You Tube
This is Dave's cover of Dear Mr Fantasy, which was a Traffic tune. His vocals on this one really shines - gutsy & growly. There is a live version of this song on You Tube as well that is a little different and of course, really good.

Here's my vote:
Dave Mason's voice with Hendrix's arrangement and guitar, and special mention to Bob Dylan for writing this fabulous song.
My favorite line from this song is: "There are many here among us who feel that life is but a joke." And I'm not a lyrics guy - my attention is almost always focused on the music, especially the guitar. I know that's a very narrow way of appreciating music - I'm working on changing that attitude.:-)
