I got in 16 3/4 hours this week. Worked on Drivin' Blues, but the recordings I made weren't even as good as the one I posted a couple weeks ago, so I said enough's enough and moved on to Cheap Runs Worked a tiny bit on the rhythm part for The Gospel Truth in the R&B book, I've got it almost up to full tempo but getting it smoothed out is going to take forever. I don't know how John plays that so smooth, it's supernatural I tell ya! Worked a bit on writing my own part for Major Blues, almost have one whole chorus finished. Did a little improvising and didn't touch the bass all week. I was having a lot of fun with the new classical guitar I bought, hopefully now that it's Autumn and golf season is drawing to a close I'll have enough time to fit in another project like working through the four - yeah four* - classical books I've ordered this week EDIT: um...make that 5

That was impressive, Jack!
My routine was exactly the same as last week, but I had some travels mid-week, so missed a couple of days on the guitar.
Lesson 5 in RnBYCU is slowly coming along, perhaps in another weeks time I can record it. I also did a bit of noodling with Major Blues also, but didn't keep any of it. And then I am on a hard deadline for learning Highway to Hell - old friends are visiting me next month, and last time we met I told them I'd play an AC/DC cover next time; a six-pack of beers made my guitar-forecast seemed very bright, but a year surely passes quickly! Maybe I'll play Major Blues for them instead...

Excellent job Jack you make it look so easy.
My week wasn't up to par either, did try another go ar chord on bleu, however the timing is still floating. I think I'll practice enough to keep it memorized and take a break from it then give it another go.
I refreshed my memory on major blues, I spent about 3 hours on it yesterday. I also started working on developing an original part, thanks jack getting me in the ball park. If I get something worked out it will be simple though.
I did practice some Iron maiden riffs also and worked through black manic women intro. Bout it most of the week was on chord on bleu.

In the Dallas airport, headed home. Traveling, so didn't touch the guitar all week. Hopefully I'll come back rejuvenated - but more likely I'll just come back out of practice...

Nice playing on that classical piece, Jack. If you going like this you'll end up being qualified as a session player.
I haven't even seen a guitar this week. I'm combining a trip to the States for a minor medical procedure with a house hunting trip, so I've been a little busy. I know this is going to set me back quite a bit, but once things settle down I'll have plenty of time to do what I want.

Jack, that was some great playing - and it's nice to see an actual face (as opposed to upper body parts) here other than Bruce's or mine for a change. As I'm still working to become better at sight reading, I know that among everything else you must be pretty good at sightreading yourself, going at this rate... one thing - for finger picking like this, make sure you develop a proper techninique, otherwise you really endanger your tendons to get hurt... maybe Phil wants to take a closer look at this and give you some feedback, as far as I remember he and his boy got some specific training background... it's something about making an 'ape hand', e.g. like this: I don't know anything about biomechanics, but otherwise the joints of your fingers will get too much starin which will cost you in time.... I have to agree with Phil, if you don't take care you could end up becoming a workin professional. Greetings, T. Thanks for the tip Tbone, I'm totally new to this classical guitar stuff - in the past I just played it on my Strat in the regular electric guitar playing position. Last night I was watching some videos about proper hand and body positions, and I've got a lot of work to do on that. One thing that makes a huge difference is that I was reclining back in my chair, but I guess you're supposed to sit on the edge of your chair, and as soon as I tried that it was like wow, everything just naturally falls into the proper position. Oh I actually don't have any sight reading skills, I just get everything in tab Although most classical stuff is in regular 5-line staff, there's more than enough stuff in tab to keep a hobbyist like myself busy for a lifetime.

My medical procedure was simply getting a cancerous lesion on my nose removed with microsurgery called MOHS. They got all the cancer on the 1st try, so everything is fine. I'm fair skinned and all those sunburns as a kid did some long term damage that I'm paying for now. It's under control and there are far worse things that people have to deal with, so I'm not complaining about a little skin off my nose. I'm more concerned with not having a guitar available.

Good to hear, Phil. I was afraid it was going to be one of those Bruce Jenner surgeries... Hey, Tbone, good to hear from you, too - even if it is about ape hands and the fact that we're the only ones who've shown our faces. In my case, it's only because I'm trying to hide the rest of my body. Yeah, Jack, that classical playing was pretty cool. Don't let Phil put down the snow in Minnesota - I hear it can rain quite a bit in Charleston. Seriously, we were just in Charleston last week (after the deluge). It's a really charming city, with a lot of US History there. Of course, since Oklahoma wasn't even a state until 1907, pretty much any place has more history than we have here.

That's great to hear everything went well Phil! Sucks about not being able to play for a while, but sometimes a little break just recharges the batteries and you come back full of enthusiasm. I had to go to the doctor the other day too, my left elbow was swelled up like there was half a ping pong ball in there. Turns out it's something called olecrenon bursitis, which is caused by resting your elbows on tabletops too much (that's my favorite beer drinking position dammit! )and it gets inflamed and your body starts filling it with fluid. The swelling's gone down to about a quarter of its previous size now, so I'm on the mend lol. It never caused me any pain or interfered with my guitar playing or golf, it just looked weird. Sigh, we're a couple of broken down old wrecks lol.

Yeah I love the snow, of course by the middle of November all the leaves are off the trees, the grass has turned brown, there's a constant heavy overcast - so when the world suddenly turns into a great big Christmas card it's wonderful Just remind me not to stick my fingers in the snowblower like I did last year lol.

Bruce, if I was going to get a Bruce Jenner job I would have been better off in Spain. The region I live in, Andalucia, offers that the for free. That's right, the poorest region in the EU offers sex changes covered by the health care system. And we think we have problems in the USA. Regarding rain in Charleston - not to make light of the people who suffered and lost everything - this is the perfect time to go house hunting. If the house didn't get flooded last week it will never get flooded.
