Ok, been trying to come up with something for our review and just keep hitting a wall. Can anyone provide some tips on how to approach the progression? For example if you are on the 1 chord do you use a major pattern 1 por use a minor pattern 1, not sure how to approach it or would you use a major pattern 5 maybe? Any some light would be appreciated.

I also thought about that, but I haven't had time to do it yet. I thought I'd try playing around with the positions a bit, and not use the same position for the IV chord lick. And perhaps some "top-bottom triad" (in lack of a better word) walking from I to IV like in the RnBYCU book would sound good with Major Blues.
I might not find time to come up with something good, but let's make an effort to at least post a good rendition of the tabbed version, so Jack and Phil have some company.

By far the simplest and most straightforward thing to do would be to just use the G major penatonic scale throughout the whole song. Being a major scale, box 1 is the area from the 2nd to 5th fret (Check page 50 of BYCU for a diagram of how box 1 in a major scale is what we'd normally think of as box 2 in a minor scale). What John does in the solo is far from "simple and straightforward" though He starts in bar 1 with box 1 of the G major pentatonic scale, then in bar 2 switches to box 1 of the C major pentatonic scale (frets 7-10) then in bar 3 it's back to box 1 of the G major pentatonic, and in bar 4 it's up to box 2 of the G major pentatonic while adding in a note from the G7 chord you're playing over. Bars 5 & 6 are C major pentatonic box 1, and then for the remainder of the song it's all G major pentatonic box 1, with notes added from the chords you're playing over (lots of bending up to notes that are in the chords). So anyhow you can be as simple or as complex as you want But like I say, by far the most straightforward thing to do would be to stick with G major pentatonic throughout the entire solo.

Thanks jack I think you might have me pointed in the right direction, basically use major scale boxes. Might have to do a solid standard version.
