I'm going to see Buddy Guy in concert tonight in Chapel Hill, NC (there visiting my son). I am STOKED! Saw him a few years ago at home. He's a premier showman, a damn good guitarist, and (sadly now) the elder statesman of the blues... I'll post a report tomorrow, and see if I can get any photos or videos on my cell phone, but I think our seats are up pretty high. Bruce

Enjoy it Bruce and welcome to NC, my neck of the woods. We live here in Greensboro.

Thanks, Chris. Had to look it up on Google maps, looks like you're about an hours drive from Chapel Hill. My son is in school at UNC. We're off today to Charleston, floodwaters willing...

Bruce, I envy you being able to see Buddy Guy. Let us know how it was.

Well, here's a photo from our seats: Buddy Guy was awesome and awe-inspiring. I also captured a little bit of video on my cell phone, but I don't seem to be able to post it from the lousy hotel internet service and my Macbook Air. It'll have to wait until I get home next week. I saw Buddy Guy 3 or 4 years ago, and he's definitely slowed down a little bit, but he's still got some very serious guitar chops. He does a lot of tributes to some of the older blues players - from Junior Wells to Muddy Waters to B B King. Highly recommended if he's ever in your neck of the woods (or you happen to be somewhere he's playing, like I was). His band was a drummer, a keyboard player, a bassist, and a rhythm guitarist (who took a few solos himself). All were obvious top notch blues players, a real lesson in how it's done by the pros, for sure.

Was the rhythm guitarist Rick Hall? If so, he's an impressive guitarist. He has this contraption that lets him spin his guitar in a full clockwise circle. Silly yet cool.

I finally got the video to upload. It's about 10 minutes of the show. Sorry the quality is what it is (recorded on a cell phone):
Phil, I didn't catch all the band member's names (Buddy Guy introduced them at various times thru the show), but the rhythm guitarist did have that same rotating harness. I've seen Z Z Top use those, too (along with their fur covered guitars)...

Yeah, that was Rick Hall aka Rick Jaz. He's been with Buddy Guy for like 15 years now. He's a conservatory trained Jazz guitarist. He's an outstanding guitarist and quite a showman himself. I saw an interview with him a year or so ago where he said how easy it was to be a rhythm guitarist in a Blues band as compared to playing Jazz. And as good as he is he is still in awe of Buddy Guy.
BTW the sound quality on your phone is damn good. Thanks for posting that. It's hard to believe that Buddy Guy is 79 years old.
