So when i read your post, I was going to respond with something like: Christmas before Halloween, now I've got the blues. Then I watched the video, and damn, that was really nice. Kinda hard to have the blues after that...

Wow, Jack, I'm more impressed by that than by just about anything that anybody's ever posted here. That was good and I'm not even a big Christmas Carroll kinda guy. That was excellent playing of an excellent arrangement. What's the name of the book? I know you mentioned it before but I didn't pay attention. I'm paying attention now. I didn't know that you were so accomplished at fingerstyle.

Thanks Chris, I'd love to play some Halloween songs but, well...what's a good Halloween song? All I can think of is Bach's Tocatta and Fugue in D minor and that's just a tich beyond my current abilities lol. And I think the organ might be slightly out of my price range as well

That's this book: www.amazon.com/Fingerpicking-Christmas-Carols-Arranged-Tablature/dp/0634062476/ref=sr_1_sc_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1443825116&sr=8-1-spell&keywords=fingrpicking+christmasI dabble with fingerpicking from time to time but I haven't really done any of it in months. Started working on these Christmas tunes about 3 weeks ago. They're kind of challenging because you're playing the vocal melody so it's not the typical repetitive rhythm type stuff. Glad you liked it

But this is the kind of thing that you can play when someone says, "You play guitar? Here's a guitar. Play something." If you can do this with a Christmas Carroll then you can do it with any genre. I'm being drawn more and more towards the whole solo guitar thing. I was blown away by what Adam Rafferty did with "Billy Jean." I love Blues, but if you can't sing it's tough to play interesting things without a band.

very nicely done, Jack! You make me want to revive my blues fingerpicking book. And thanks for breaking the silence...

Thanks Joachim! Yeah it's been so quiet around here I thought somebody needs to post something Phil, not to advertise other people's stuff on here but, um...you might want to take a look at that Essentials: Solo Electric Blues course by Jeff McErlain over at Truefire. Lots of very cool stuff in there, all to be played unaccompanied on electric guitar. You just need to find an extra 5 hours a week or so to add it to your current practice schedule

That was very cool, Jack. I had a period in my life where I played a lot of acoustic finger style guitar, but have let the skill deteriorate. Never really took it up on the electric, though. You got a really nice tone on that - care to share what kind of settings you recorded it with?

You got a really nice tone on that - care to share what kind of settings you recorded it with? Thanks Bruce! that's actually the exact same sound I've been using for most of my blues stuff lately, a Fender Super Reverb amp sim (aka American Tube Clean 1) in Amplitube 3. That preset has a compressor both before and after the amp - the one in front just limits the signal strength to keep the sound clean; if you turn it off you get a bit of overdrive. The one after the amp keeps the volume evened out. And there's a tiny bit of reverb. Other than that I just turned the tone on the neck pickup up to ten to bring out the melody notes a bit more. I usually keep both tone controls somewhere in the middle. I really like the semi-hollowbody for fingerpicking, it has a nice rich sound. Of course an actual acoustic guitar would be much better lol - have to put that on my shopping list
