I had a good week of practice, although I didn't find time to play for last couple of days - damn kids...
I finish a lesson in RnBYCU - I worked on that lesson for 3-4 weeks, so thought it was time to move on even though my recording had a few flubs.
The most fun thing during the week was working on Highway to Hell - I was surprised that I can actually play most of it pretty well at reduced speed. Being able to play that song well will definitely be a major achievement for me. It might even give me enough moral surplus to jump back on the MBYCU bandwagon. I can also see some of the other songs in my AC/DC play-along book include tricky technical elements covered in MBYCU.

Set up my recording stuff and actually made a video this week. As far as practice, been kind of a so so week. Need to get a video of Chord-On Bleu made and move onward to Drivin' Blues.

I got in 9 hrs. 20 mins. of practice. Almost hit my goal of 10 hours! About 2/3 of that time was spent on "Makin' Changes" from MBYCU. That study has the most intricate rhythm guitar part that I've encountered so far. I focused on it and can play it at tempo now. The lead part is the most melodic and beautiful in the book. I'm taking it one measure at a time, and waiting till I can play that measure at full tempo before moving on. I've got "Tremblin' Tremelo" down, but need to clean up the 1st chorus before recording it. I still have too many unwanted sounds ringing out. "8 Bar Boogie" is a surprisingly easy tune to play - at a slower speed. The hard part about this one is playing it at 165bpm. I've got it up to 140bpm and have to work on breaking through that brick wall. So, overall it's been a good week. Unfortunately, in a few days I'm going to be away from the guitar for about 3 weeks. That's going to set me back a bit, but that's life.

Kind of a lazy week, about 12 hours on guitar and a whole half hour on bass. Got Motor City Stroll posted and now it's on to The Gospel Truth - the rhythm part on that seems really fast with about a gazillion chord changes. That'll take a lot of practice. It goes to a double time feel at the end, but it seems to go from 82 BPM up to 193; that seems like a bit more than double to me Guess I need to continue working on Drivin' Blues as well. Started writing a bit of stuff for Major Blues and did a very rough draft of a backing track for it. I think I'm concentrating WAY too much on adding in chord tones to the solo, which kind of ends up sounding like a dry academic exercise rather than an emotional solo. But I imagine that's normal as I'm just starting to explore that area of playing. You concentrate on the new technique 100% and then much much later it eventually becomes a part of your playing instead of the entirety of your playing. Did the usual improvising and I'm still working on my Christmas stuff - doing some fingerpicking is a nice break from the usual blues stuff, and it's fun having a lighthearted project where I can work on one song for 5 minutes, another for 10; oh this one's a lot of fun I'll spend 20 minutes on it. Not that nose-to-the-grindstone hard work of my blues projects lol. So this week it's: Drivin' Blues The Gospel Truth Major Blues something on bass improvising Christmas stuff gazing longingly through the new Musician's Friend catalog

I was hoping for a nice easy week with work and planning to spend a lot more time with the guitar. Unfortunately, my wife ended up in the hospital, requiring emergency surgery. Things are good now and she is recovering just fine, but it certainly didn't leave much time to think about guitar. Although it did give me the blues...
Towards the end of the week, I was able to get in some practice time and I was able to get down the first 4-6 bars of Getting Funky. On another note, there was some great stuff posted here this week. It was nice to check in periodically from the hospital and have new stuff to listen to and watch. Thanks fellas!

I also learned the intro to Black Magic Woman and getting through most of solo 1. I also worked on some Pink Floyd.
