Late with my assignment again... oh, well - I guess you can deduct some of the fun I've had playing this one. No extra choruses this time. More Minor Blues: Backing track is Band-In-A-Box. Bruce

Very cool Bruce, and like Joachim said, great to see you recording again! You always look so sharp in your videos, complete with a tie - not like the grubby scrubs in their T-shirts and sweatpants in my band

I recorded that while home from work for a lunch break, thus the attire. Wish I would have taken those stupid pens out of my pocket. Oh well. You don't see that stuff until after the fact - kind of like those funny things that sometimes unintentionally make it into movies. Now onward to Major Blues.

Bruce, Good to see you back in the saddle again. You always bring an element of class to the forum with the tie and all. I won't mention how much the red pen sticking out of your pocket throws everything out of whack since you already pointed it out. One thing I think you could improve is holding the notes a bit longer (legato). It's kind of choppy in places. The other comment I have is very subjective. I think you have too much distortion. I tend to like a cleaner sound, but that's just my personal taste. However, if you like more distortion be careful about playing full chords. I'd stay with 3 note chords and double stops. I know the study calls for a lot of full chords, but they don't sound good with a lot of distortion. Keep those videos coming.

Bruce, Good to see another review post, hey I liked the pens added a nice contrast ?. I with Phil i like a little bit cleaner tone on this tune, but that's all subjective to the player. Keep em coming.

Thanks for the comments Rich and Phil. You know, I think the distortion and legato things kind of go hand in hand. When I recorded that I had distortion "turned to 11" (been playing too much Troy Stetina lately). I actually turned it down a whole lot AFTER recording it (and I agree, it's still a pretty distorted tone). I have a feeling that playing with distortion subtly changes how you play - you cut off notes and chords because they sound kind of bad when you let them linger on. However, then when you turn the distortion way down on your recording (after recording while playing with it), the notes sound kind of cut off. Maybe that's just rationalization... yeah, that's it. I think the long and short of it is that I need to record with a tone that's at least "in the ballpark". Another valuable lesson learned, and that's what this is all about. Like I said before, I've enjoyed these BYCU reviews, and I think part of that is because I probably never played these that well to begin with (because I didn't record myself and didn't have this kind of feedback).
I also notice on watching myself on video is that I've still got the "wonky" pinky finger on my fretting hand. One of the things that Troy Stetina talks about is keeping all your fingers close to the fretboard to help with speed. Like I said, good stuff comes out of critically watching yourself play.
