I started on my "Easy Blues Play-Along" book, that's been collecting dust on the book-shelf. The first song is "Bright Lights, Big City" by Jimmy Reed. An easy song, but it's fun to play, and it felt wonderful not to struggle with it... Anyway, here are some distractions, so Jack don't send us all on a shopping spree: soundcloud.com/joachim-dahl-1/bright-lights-big-cityLater in the book there are "easy" versions of San-Ho-Zay and Mary Had a Little Lamb...

Hey, that's swinging, Joachim. Just goes to show that it doesn't have to be hard to play to sound good. Good to hear some actual blues music on here. I was toying with the idea of posting some rock n roll, just so there'd be something for everyone to criticize and at least something on the board. I've worked some on the Buddy Guy rhythm part to Mary Had A Little Lamb, it's a fun song. And San-Ho-Zay, well it's always good to hear some Freddie King. Keep 'em coming! I always get a big kick out of finding something fun to play in one of the myriad old books I have sitting around gathering dust.

Cool stuff Joachim, nice playing! Are you talking about that "Do You Know The Way to San-Ho-Zay" song? I always liked that one.

Very well done, Joachim. You fit in like you're part of the band. And I agree, it's nice to play something that's not so damn technically demanding once in a while. However, I wonder how easy you would have found this a year ago? I think your skills have improved to where something like this is now easy for you to play.
I like Jimmy Reed a lot. Most of his songs have practically the same accompaniment, but his melodies are unique in the world of Blues. My favorites are "Bright Lights, Big City" and "Baby What You Want Me to Do." His wife harmonizes on the vocals. It's said that she also helped write most of his songs.
Guitarist Eddie Taylor plays on a lot of Reed's recordings. He also supposedly taught Reed to play guitar and harp. He also did some solo work. You might want to check him out. Very good stuff and possibly the source of Reed's style including Reed's "slack-jaw" vocal style.
