Another one from the R&B book. A very different style of song, but I really enjoyed playing it. Let me know what you think

Very nice. Whenever I play a continuous, repeating rhythm part like that for a long song, it starts to really take a lot of concentration to keep in time and stamina to go the distance. Looks like you got into a groove and really made it work. While listening, at times it kind of had a sort of Roy Orbison feel, and at other times I kind of felt almost a slow surf groove. Either way, I dig it.

Thanks Chris, yeah the repetitive nature of that rhythm part really had a way of lulling me into a semi-conscious state and I'd constantly be forgetting what chord was coming up next lol.

Jack, thanks for breaking the deafening silence around here for the past few days. I think you've put up another really solid one here, Jack. First off, I just love that Epiphone - looks really sweet, sounds even better. That piece has a nice, melodic feel to the lead, and the rhythm part is definitely one of those late 50's - early 60's cliche things. That one's also a bit longer than a lot of the BYCU and MBYCU numbers, which is nice to hear. Have you ever noticed that you hardly ever hear a band play a minute and a half long song? Anyway, I thought your playing sounded very solid on both parts, and I enjoyed hearing it. Good job!

Bruce took the words outta my mouth, thanks for breaking the silence. I think most of are slower working through mbycu now. Great job. So do you record the rythm then lay your lead part when you do these? I am trying to work out an approach to theses Rythmn and lead tunes.

Nicely done, Jack. I know it's nice to play something that's not so technically demanding once in a while. However, that rhythm part must really take some stamina to play.
I like the tone you get from your Epi.

Thanks so much guys, glad you liked it! Bruce - I'm just in love with that Epiphone That's the Sheraton II Pro, which has the ProBucker pickups with coil tapping (I had the bridge pickup in single coil mode and the neck in humbucker for the rhythm part; both in humbucker for the lead) and it's also the only Sheraton II that comes in that wine red color. I've got to listen to some more of this late '50s early '60s stuff, I've never really heard too much of this style of music and it seems the next few songs in the R&B book are of this style too. Rich, yeah the lead always gets recorded after the rhythm, I really need to hear the chords in order to put the proper feel into the lead playing. On this one oddly enough I did the bass last, just because I didn't get around to figuring out the bass part until after the rhythm part was done. Phil, it's weird but it was actually my left hand that was getting tired playing the rhythm part. I think I'm not totally used to those .011's yet and still pressing way too hard on the strings.

That was great, Jack! The Epiphone is perfect for that kind of song... Wonderfully played and great sound, and nice with some posts; I was at the verge of recording my scale practice.

Thanks so much Joachim! Yeah it's been quiet here lately, I've been working on some Christmas songs if anybody wants to hear Silent Night at half tempo

Is that so? Thanks so much Tbone, I was meaning to ask for recommendations for this music, or any of your guys' suggestions for bands that play the style of music in this book in general (and "Sixties Dance Music" and "It's About Time" specifically as those are favorites of mine )

Thanks Mick! That rhythm guy should take over on lead I think I haven't sold my soul quite yet - if I ever play Cheap Runs with a "relaxed" feel you'll know something is up though
