A good week - 9hrs with various techniques, rhythm work, lead ideas and BYCU stuff - obviously Completed RABYCU Slow Dance Dreams with a recirding that I posted yesterday. This week is onwards and upwards with the next RABYCU track. Really enjoying that each piece has a rhythm and lead portion so I get a "full" workout

A good week of practice for me also. I am working on the 4th lesson in R&BYCU, which is coming along. I've ramped up on technical exercises and chord workout from BCYCU - probably too much, because for the first time guitar practice started to feel like a chore this week...

I got in 8 hours of practice this week - getting close to my 10 hr. goal. Most of that time was spent on "8 Bar Boogie" and trying to smooth out "Groovin' Easy." "Tremblin' Trememlo" is almost ready for prime time, but still needs a little more work. My big accomplishment was recording "Groovin' Easy." Now I can focus on the "More Minor Blues" challenge and not wait till the last minute. "8 Bar Boogie" appears to be a very difficult study. It sounds intimidating. The truth is that it is the easiest study so far in MBYCU. There are no specific techniques to master like tremolo picking/strumming, step and a half bends or sliding 6's all over the fretboard. It's just a matter of being able to play something simple at break-neck speed.

I had a good week of practice, 17 hours on guitar but only about an hour and a half on bass. I guess when I'm working on three projects, two of which also have rhythm guitar parts, it doesn't leave much time for bass. Worked a lot on More Minor Blues, I guess I'm about 99% finished writing my two choruses. I'll make full use of the coming week to practice it, which is much needed lol. I can't even play through the part from the book without a major screw up 9 times out of 10. The part I wrote is very mellow, hopefully not very boring Also worked on Two Chord Stroll in the R&B book, the rhythm part is quite challenging as it's strummed pretty fast but you have to practice it until you can make it sound nice and relaxed. The lead is fairly straightforward but needs more practice too. John says it's a New Orleans R&B style song, and I guess I've never heard that style before (to me it sounds very Hawaiian) but the more I work on it the more I like it Also spent some time on Drivin' Blues in More BYCU, that's coming along okay but still has a long ways to go. Was practicing it at full tempo one day (sounded really rushed and crappy though) but the next day I couldn't manage 15 BPM less than full tempo. Oh well, practice practice practice.

I think I played at least an hour every day this week, but didn't play at all yesterday (Labor Day here in the USA, spent at the lake). Been really trying to improve my practice habits - not just sitting in front of the TV, playing with recordings/backing tracks, incorporating some technique exercises (boy do I need some work there!). It's a work in progress. Have enjoyed working on "More Minor Blues" - it's been a long time since I did BYCU. I'm also not sure I really had those studies all "up to snuff" so to speak, as I didn't record myself back then, and didn't have the benefit of a group like this to keep me on track.
I agree with WPB about pieces with both rhythm and lead parts. I went thru BRYCU after BYCU, and remember thinking what I needed was a book that put both rhythm and lead together. Of course, MBYCU is like this, but boy I didn't think I could play any of that stuff...

I got in 10 hours this week, 7 on guitar and 3 on bass. My main focus is still with building speed and picking accuracy in order to play "Cheap Runs", This is going to take longer than I first anticipated but it is a vital skill to be developed. Some of these exercises I am working on are practised along with backing tracks so I may do some vids if I get proficient enough. On the bass side I have been having a lot of fun learning a Trinity grade 4 version of "White Room" by Cream, expect a vid as soon as I have worked out how to drive Reaper.

Overall, it was a good week for me even though I had some business travel and a busy schedule. I was able to get through Bends, Slides and Shifts and get a recording posted, and now I'm on to that next lesson - Getting Funky. As the speed and complexity of the lessons picks up, I really need to focus on alternate picking so this will be more of priority for me going forward.
I've started putting together my own track, based on material from other books, and techniques and theory that I've learned along the way. I've pretty much gotten the lead written, but I'm finding that as I play it, it still needs some tweaks here and there. I hope to record and post a version in the next couple weeks and will share more details when I do.
