I've been extremely busy lately, but this week things are finally paying off! I hit a huge milestone at work this week and presented a long term Vision and Strategy presentation to 3 levels of Vice Presidents, that was extremely well received. This was the culmination of about 10 months of work that began late last year. On the BYCU front, I've really been focused on improving my bends and I've spent about a month on Bending the Blues. This is the recording I got put together this evening, and I'm ready to move on to Bends, Slides and Shifts! Bending the BluesI hope everyone else is having a good week as well! Chris

Chris,
That was great to hear - brings back fond memories of playing that very tune for months on end, trying to learn to bend myself... Bends, Slides, and Shifts is more of the same! Take all the time you need on these ones - that sound of bends is absolutely important in electric blues guitar, and you've been around here long enough to probably here us all ribbing each other about our flat bends and our sharp bends and our oh-so-many ways otherwise imperfect bends. You can't ever get that bending skill too highly developed. You're off to a strong start with that recording, You've got a few off-target bends in there, but it's definitely good enough to move on to the next lesson. And congratulations on your big work presentation! That's got to be a huge relief and sense of accomplishment on a job well-done.
I'm pulling for you to stay the course and make it all the way thru BYCU. It's a lot of work, but if you do it, it'll be something like that same sense of accomplishment and satisfaction you've had with your work project.
Bruce

Great job, Chris.
It's actually a cool tune - and you played it pretty well. Your bends were definitely better than mine, when I recorded that song.
Glad you're still in the program - looking forward to the next recording!

Thanks fellas. I agree, bends will always be a part of my practice routine (pretty much forever). I definitely plan to stick with the course, and I get more and more excited and motivated with each lesson I record. Where I used to listen to the lessons and think 'man, I'll never play like that', now I look at the lessons coming up and think 'cool, can't wait to get to that one and get it figured out'! I also continue to play each past lesson on a regular basis and I can see and feel my self becoming more comfortable with the techniques learned in each one.

I used to listen to the lessons and think 'man, I'll never play like that' LOL! That's really funny. We've all been there, and so many times. I'm looking at MBYCU, and I still find myself thinking that - but deep inside, I know I can play it, but that it will take practice and dedication to accomplish it.

Bruce ^ What he said Really take advantage of these first songs where bends are introduced, because they just get harder from now on

Yeh I remember playing this song too, brings back fond memories. Like these guys said make sure you practice getting your bends to pitch as you work through these because bending is an important part of the blues. As said before Eric Clapton said the one thing he still practices is bending. I still practice bending using a tuner. Keep up the good work.
