I got in 13 1/2 hours on guitar and 2 on bass this week. Got Delta Mood posted and More Minor Blues seems to have a commanding lead in next month's poll, so maybe I'll get started on that. Should be really interesting trying to write something in that chord-melody style. Worked quite a bit on Atlantic Coast Soul in the R&B book; well the first page of it at least I've got satisfactory takes of the bass and rhythm guitar parts but the lead, though extremely mellow, has a few finger-twisters that will take me some time to get smoothed out. Also did a bit of work on Chord-On Bleu in More BYCU - I never made videos of those first songs so maybe I'll make a project out of that. And I did my usual improvising over backing tracks. Put some .011's on my Sheraton II, so with those on both that and my Strat, I've got nowhere to hide when my fingertips get tender Bad week for my wallet, got another book of Christmas songs and as advanced as some of the songs are, I'll be lucky to have them done by Christmas. Then my uncle posted some guy playing some great Delta style slide guitar on Facebook so I had to order a book on slide guitar. And last night I was having a few beers and listening to some Mississippi John Hurt, so of course his songbook is on its way to me now. It comes with 2 CD's which supposedly include everything he ever recorded, so that'll be cool. Also ordered a little 25 key MIDI controller keyboard that I'm hoping to use to "play" drums on that EZ Drummer 2 program I've got. You can tap in drum rhythms with your mouse, which if you've ever tried it, absolutely sucks, so hopefully this keyboard will be much more useful. I suppose you could play piano and organ on it too, who knows maybe I could stick a few chords in the background of a few songs...some day.

Jack's up early today. Where is everybody else? It's been kind of dead around here recently. I hope we haven't lost any of the regulars. I got in about 6 hrs this week. I retired 2 weeks ago and have got less practice time in than when I was commuting 3.5 hrs a day and working full time. I spent most of that time working on "Delta Mood" and trying to come up with something original. I forced myself to record it yesterday to make the deadline and I'm pretty satisfied with the results. I'm a little disappointed that only Jack and I participated in this. My goal this coming week is to practice more (I should be able to do 10 hrs.) and to increase the bpms on "Tremblin' Tremelo." I also intend to start "Groovin' Easy" and practice some Jazz stuff. I should probably start listening to "More Minor Blues." That going to be a tough one if it is the final selection.

I think I played for maybe a half hour to an hour every day, except yesterday. Still working on the same stuff. I'm hoping that today I can do some recording - it's been 3 months since I made a video! Time flies when you're too busy... oh, well.
Mississippi John Hurt - man, Jack, I didn't know you did all that intricate acoustic fingerpicking stuff too. Can't wait to hear some of it. It's good to hear about your shopping spree, though. Maybe my shopping desires can be filled vicariously.

Hey I've been doing the math here and something's not quite right with that Happy retirement by the way; I'd love to do that. Only another decade or so

My practice time has been down also got a solid 4.5 hours in maybe a little more. Working on lesson 1 of more blues you can use and in the rythm now book simple 7ths.
I need to post my delta mood rendition, but after the 2 mine falls short I am afraid, but I did spend time trying to add my own part which has really identified a flaw in my skill.

I had an awful practice week - and decided to sit "Delta Mood" review out to have time for at least part of my daily practice routine. I did make a recording of the first rhythm lesson in Troy Stetina's metal series: soundcloud.com/joachim-dahl-1/whips-and-chairsI started on his series in parallel with RnBYCU and BCYCU, perhaps too much at once but I like Stetina's book series as well as Ganapes.

Very nicely done Joachim! Hey how about making a hybrid of that song and Delta Mood? That would be the coolest thing ever!

Cheap runs is progressing but its very hit and miss, some nights I feel it is within my grasp and the next I can barely get it above slow tempo, but the good news is I can now play it from memory with just a little support from the tab. I am working on speed building exercises in addition to the lesson 3 ones as well. I have spent more time getting familiar with the Ableton DAW, I am still not sure this is the one for me, it works well enough for what I need but I do not like the workflow. I am thinking I may follow some of you guys down the Reaper path. Qn for those of you who use Reaper with a Focusrite interface: what ASIO driver gives the best result? ASIO4all or the focusrite one and what sort of latency do you get when recording? Unfortunately I have not had enough spare practice time for side projects so no going down to the Delta for me this month, MBYCU is a lot of effort for me and it is very easy to stray . Talking of straying....great job with the Stetina rhythm J, I actually finished that V1 book which is a rarity for me, is that V2 calling to me? ...repeat 10 times....I will not stray from MBYCU . OH, I nearly forgot, I've had a NGD, I have had a gift from my son for services rendered in helping him raising a deposit for his new home. Yes I know its not very bluesy but its a very big part of what I am musically.

I tried the ASIO4all driver but couldn't get it to work with my amp sim software (Amplitube 3). I had latency problems with the Focusrite driver but I emailed their customer service and they directed me to this page: global.focusrite.com/answerbase/optimising-your-pc-for-audio-on-windows-7?id=1071 I followed steps 1-4 (I didn't do step 5 with disabling the antivirus etc.) and that seemed to fix everything - latency is unnoticeable now. I think it also helped a lot that I just plugged my Scarlet Solo into a different USB port on my PC - I originally had it plugged into the front panel but then I moved it around to the back - those USB ports are mounted directly on the motherboard. Very cool SG by the way! Is that the Tony Iommi signature model?

That looks like a guitar made for AC/DC Beautiful - I wouldn't mind one of those - I have an AC/DC play-along book on the shelf, and I will start on that right after finishing all the BYCU books, the Stetina series, and perhaps my Hendrix play-along book...

Mick, I read good reviews about Windows 10 for audio recording with lower latency than Windows 7 and 8. I upgraded to Windows 10, but I didn't see any noticable difference - still around 4-5 ms using Rig Kontrol 3, but that's pretty already pretty good.
