Well here is my first shot at my final study in BYCU, hopefully good enough to be considered DG Done Graduated . Overall its ok, personal observations timing was floating a bit, but still I am getting better, and a couple of bends seem a little flat. However the tune sounds like I played it fairly comfortably, and I really don't like the tag that will be on my working list. So here it is for what is worth. soundcloud.com/alabama-blues/all-forms-blues-v1-1Recording Notes: Interface: Guitar: ES335 Pedal Board: Boss Compression into Keeley moded Boss Blues Driver, out to APOGEE HD Jam to computer DAW: Garageband 10.1 No amp emulation, some equipping and reverb added to final mix.

Rich, I highly recommend that you spend a little more time on this one before jumping into MBYCU. One big thing I noticed is you are letting many of the bends fall back down instead of cutting them off. Plus your timing is rushed in places and dragged out in others.
I know you're excited about finishing the book and getting into MBYCU, but spend at least another week on this study and polish it up a bit.

Rich, I'd agree with Phil on this one. It needs some more work. I'd also agree with you - you are getting MUCH better. I think you hit the sore points right on the head - timing, timing, TIMING, and bends. I think you'd benefit a lot to work on these. You've crossed the finish line, but I'd like to see you cross the finish line with some STYLE.

I've got to agree with Phil and Bruce regarding putting some more time into it, this is the finale Rich and you've got to graduate with first class Hons .

Rich, it actually sounded OK - great sound - but the timing being off was what I noticed the must. I look forward to hearing what another week or two will do for this song. Mick is right - it's the graduation song, after all Wrt. MBYCU, give it a try, but don't let it weigh you down, if you think it's too hard - then just switch to another book easier book and go back to it later. I decided to make some progress into R&BYCU and BCYCU before continuing with MBYCU, because I need a more solid foundation in chords and notes outside the minor pentatonic scale to appreciate MBYCU. That's just me - people learn in different ways, and you might have a better understanding of chord theory and fretboard layout, etc.

Rich are you going straight from the slow tempo to the full tempo version? I usually work my way up in 5 bpm increments. With a really challenging song like this one, it can easily take me a week, two weeks, or more just to move it up 5-10 bpm and still play it (somewhat) accurately

I go straight to the full speed version normally, it's weird but I had another guitar player listen to the recording in the morning he thought the timing was out, in the afternoon were messing about and he listened to it 2 more times and said sounded in time, wouldn't beige when I said it was the same recording. I know I was floating around though, maybe just reviewed it to much. Anyway just spent another 1.5 hours on it tonight, and I am identifying a couple of the spots where I am loosing the timing, I almost have them worked out. Plus I caught a 5 bend regales pull off I wasn't playing correctly. This is actually becoming productive as I learned a new trick in GB for analyzing the timing.
TBone is correct I want to get down some of the progressions better as I think those will be useful when playing with more people, but am also moving into mbycu albeit different approach.

Everybody gets to do whatever they want to do, but I've finally discovered that playing slowly and getting it accurate is working better for me. I've been working on "True Teem Blues" and Tremblin' Tremolo" at extremely slow speeds. It's very tedious, but it's starting to pay off. Accuracy trumps speed as far as I am concerned. Speed will come after I can play it accurately at a slow speed. It's actually not necessarily easy to play something slowly in proper time. It's frustrating at times not to try and play at full tempo right away. But, in my case it just comes out sounding sloppy. Case in point, my uploads of "Cheap Runs" (both of them.) I was in too much of a hurry to play it fast, and it's uneven and sloppy. I should have spent more time working on it slowly. Anyway, that's the way I'm approaching these studies right now. It took me a long time to get this through my thick head. I'll be uploading some recordings within the next couple of weeks and you guys will be the judges as to whether or not this approach is working.

"I'll be uploading some recordings within the next couple of weeks" Will you be doing the three different camera angle thing? 'Cause that looks really cool Just kidding

'Cause that looks really cool Just kidding I'm working on the no angle camera thing right now. I'll tell you what would really be cool. We need to see some good Blues guitar facial contortions from you guys who are posting videos. I'm seriously considering doing a video in the near future. Honest, I'll do one someday. Just give me some time.

Just an extra note on the speed thing I usally isolate several bars and practice the section until it sounds correct, but if I am having trouble then I slow it down until I get the section. So I guess I use a hybrid approach.

I've got a really short one ya know
