After I work thru more of the instructional material that I've accumulated over the years, I want to start working on some of Freddie King's instrumentals. Freddie is my fav of the 3 Kings and he had some great instrumentals in addition to the great blues that he played.
Hideaway San Ho Zay The Stumble
Freddie usually played a Gibson ES of some flavor, I think it may have been an ES345 but he used several plus Les Paul guitars with P90s. Couple the growl of a p90 thru a Fender Super 6 Reverb (100 watts of 6L6 power into 6-10" speakers) played wide open AND Freddie used metal finger picks. Talk about in your face attitude. Freddie had it all. Nicknamed the Texas Cannonball I've linked 3 of his songs below, only 1 is an instrumental. Freddie had an incredible blues voice to go along with his playing. He was a big guy, his ES almost looked like a ukelele around his neck and he really muscled the guitar for all that was in him

Yes, Freddie is my favorite King, too! I learned a nice Arrangement of "Hide away" once, taught by Norbert Roschauer, a great Bluesman from Germany's Rhein-Neckar-Delta - it's the whole tune accompanied with an alternate thumb bass, so one can play this instrumental on the own w/o band back up - if you want to take a look at it, I'll rec and post it here... I would like to see it. Hideaway with a steady bass sounds really interesting and would have to be a challenge to learn

One of the guitar rags had a great article about Freddie King recently. It was probably timed to match his induction into R&R Hall of Fame. I will see if I can find it and post a link.
