So after reading Robert's intro post, I decided it's time to move from lurker to 'the new guy'.
I live here in North Carolina, dedicated hobbyist, been playing for about 6 years. Right out of the gate, I started trying to learn the blues. Picked up BYCU and a few other books, but really struggled since I had no real foundation. Over the years, I've built up a good foundation, open and barre chords, pentatonic and blues scales up/down the neck and all keys, and I've been jamming with Tom Petty a couple nights a week (strictly rhythm), but he doesn't really know it...
A few months ago, I started getting serious about my playing again and put together a practice routine that I can work on each night. I've been lurking here for a while and really dig the vibe of the forum and currently active members. I'm back to working through BYCU again, and with a much better experience this time. I'm currently playing lesson 3 fairly comfortably and started working on lesson 4 (slow version) today. My practice routine includes a fair amount of technique (bends, etc.). Also started BRYCU and my routine alternates between both lead/rhythm lessons.
Hopefully I'll also have some good stuff to contribute in the near future.
Chris
PS. I also share a birthday with Jimmy Page. There has to be some kind of mojo in that, right?

Hi chrisnc, nice to have you here! And thanks from moving from Lurker to participant. It makes a huge difference to all of us who regularly post stuff!
The group here is awesome! They have encouraged me and helped me in ways that far exceed me just working through the book on my own at home. You get a real sense of being part of a family all working to achieve the same thing - an ability to play the Blues on guitar!
As I said in another post...
I *really* encourage you to join in with the Wekkly Updates, they help to keep you focused, set your tasks and keep you going. Being part of this forum is what helps you to complete the book. Seriously, it works!
I also highly recommend you record yourself and post the resordings here. It freaked me out the first time I did it - but the support, and sugestions from everyone here will take your playing further! Above all, it will record your progress and encourage listeners in their endevour to progress in their work. It works both ways!

Welcome, Chris,
Good to have another member aboard! I am looking forward to you recordings, it sounds like you're on the right track, and if you aren't used to recording yourself, then I would also encourage you to jump into it.
Cheers Joachim

Welcome, Chris. Wow! 2 new active members in 1 week. That may be a first. I hope you stick around for a while. It's good to hear that you are already working on BYCU and BRYCU. This forum will definitely help you stay focused and motivated. It will even provided some inspiration. Staying motivated to work through a study that you find particularly difficult is hard for most people. It's easy to give up and move on to something easier. The one sure-fired way to stay motivated to keep practicing is to have someone to be accountable to . If you actively participate in this forum you'll get the feeling that you have an obligation to finish the study you are working, and then the next one, etc. Of course, that's all in your head, but I think you know what I'm talking about. Once again, welcome. Phil

Welcome aboard Chris! Glad you decided to start posting. As others have said, it's great to post your recordings here; I know in my case the guys pointed out some things in my playing that really needed work that I wasn't aware of before, and you also get a great sense of community as you work through the books along with everybody else. And recording is something every musician will want to do eventually, and it's an entire area of learning in and of itself, so it's great experience as well. Oh I share a birthday with Pee Wee Herman and Ed Gein

Another welcome all the way from Oklahoma. My son is going to school in North Carolina, though. Sounds like you'll bring your playing to a higher level to follow BYCU and BRYCU. ...and Jack - Pee Wee Herman - really? Bruce

Hi Chris, you're way ahead of me, but I'm going to give it a good try. Partying with Page, playing with Tom Petty - next stop the Ryman - right?

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome. Much appreciated. I've spent the day figuring out a bunch of stuff and I think I've got my first swing at a recording just in time to jump onto the current weekly update thread! Woohoo!
