So, after many, many, many, many, many... (you get the idea) attempts at trying to improvise over the backing track I worked out a few parts that I felt worked and ended up with a "solo" of my own. It's 2 choruses of an 8 bar minor blues: soundcloud.com/wannalearnguitar/sweetnotes-blues-progression-2015-05-05I used a digital delay, reverb and my Joyo Vintage Overdrive (Tube Screamer copy) to get the tone. I'm happy with the overall feel of the track. Thoughts and comments appreciated!

WPB,
That was damn good. I like it a lot. It sounds well thought out and not just running up and down a scale.
Where did you get the backing track?

Wannaplay,
That sounded good. Like Phil said, not just running up and down scales, getting in all the notes you can. Had some nice held bends, some dramatic pauses. Thanks for sharing.

That's awesome. It reminds me of a scene on Lethal Weapon at his beach house. Very cool mood.

I loved that WPB! Awesome sort of a slow burn solo with a fantastic mood to it. You're really hitting all the "sweet notes"! Very expressive, beautiful bends and that little trill was the perfect touch. The guitar sound was just great too.

I'm really glad everyone has enjoyed it. Listening back to it, the guitar tone and the string bends are the bits I'm most proud of. Phil the backing track is from another product I purchased online. bluesbruce I think the pauses work by accident - I don't feel I know enough about improvising to over-play yet mikeherb you don't know how much I really appreciate your comment - I never thought my solo would invoke memories in a listener's mind. The fact that it has indicates a connection between my work and my listener (audience?) and that is probably the best thing to ever happen from my playing. So, thank you! jack1982 listening back, I think the trill sounds really good - what luck that it went right on the take

bluesbruce I think the pauses work by accident - I don't feel I know enough about improvising to over-play yet Keep having those "accidents." Most of us end up filling every space with notes, even though we know we are supposed to leave space. Putting in pauses in the right places is as difficult as playing the right notes.

Hahaha I can't believe I remember this. I haven't seen the movie in probably 20 years. It is very much like your piece: Lethal Weapon - Rigg's Beach House
