Hey, where's everybody at? I got in 6 days for a total of 8.75 hours. The most I've practiced in a long time.Spent most of that on "Big Bends" and "True Trem Blues." In the Jazz realm I worked mostly on a chord melody course. The focus is on harmonizing a scale and using those chords in melody. Learning new chord voicings consumed most of my time. This chord melody course and the rhythm parts of the 2 MBYCU studies have really shown me how bad I am at playing chords that I'm not thoroughly familiar with. My plan for the coming week is to Start on "Jazzin the Blues," which I keep putting off, and continue working on "Big Bends" and "True Trem." I don't think I'll be posting any recordings for a couple of weeks.

I got in a good 7 hours of practice. Focusing on technical practice and cleaning up preaching gospel blues. I am almost ready to record gospel blues, just need to clean up the apreggio and the ending. I also ordered a book to start learning some bass playing.

Hey, where's everybody at? It's barely 5:00 AM here I got in 10 3/4 hours on guitar and 5 1/4 on bass. Also did 15 minutes a day of ear training. Got Minor Soul Chop posted, which I'm more or less happy with. The production sounded kind of dull on it though. Haven't started on the next song in the R&B book yet. Mostly worked on Groovin' Easy in More BYCU. Got the bass line figured out and I've been doing lots of takes of that and the rhythm guitar part. The song's got a bit of a swing feel to it yet the chords are cut really short - that confuses my little brain Been working a lot on the lead too; there are a few quick parts but the rest of it is at a relaxed speed, so if I practice it at a slow enough tempo that I can play the fast parts, the rest of it is agonizingly slow. Also worked a bit on Bass Aerobics and I listened to my recording of Lazy Day Blues the other day (I'm still cleaning the puke stains out of the carpeting) so I worked on that a bit too. For ear training I've been using this site: www.teoria.com/exercises/ie.php I just do 2 intervals at a time, like major 2nds and 3rds one day, perfect 4ths and 5ths the next, etc. You'd think it would be easy just telling two intervals apart, but when the first note keeps changing all over the treble cleff, it throws a monkey wrench in the works. Oh well I started off the week getting about 60% correct and now I'm up to about 80%, so apparently my guesses are improving This week I'm GAS'ing for some EZ Drummer 2 software and have also decided I want a classical guitar

This week I didn't have any goals, and I wasted my practice time noodling... Oh, that's kind of been like every week in recent memory. I did get a new guitar and I turned another year older (that was actually last week). Oh, well. Bruce

Well I didn't do an awful lot of serious practice this week, what with 60th birthdays and new amps etc, but I did learn how to post a linked image on this forum thanks to the 2 J's . I have however started studying the new improvisation and chord tone soloing book I got last week and very soon came to the disturbing realisation that I did not know my way about the fretboard nowhere near as good as I though I did. You really need to know where all the roots are before you even start looking at intervals, scales and chord structure, so I really need to go back to square one with music theory regarding the guitar. I also attempted some fret/picking hand co-ordination exercises that I used to do a while ago and I have lost about 30bpm playing 16ths, I suppose this is what happens if you don't keep skills in your practice regime. I suspected I may have been focusing too much on the songs rather than the mechanical skills. Strangely enough I never really noticed a deterioration in skills when I was younger if I didn't play things for a while, must be an age thing . Definitely a new practice plan is in order that gets me back to building skills rather than how many songs I can post . Has anyone else experienced this or is it just me?

I had know idea you turned 60. I always pictured you as someone in their 40's. Well, Happy Birthday and welcome to the 6th Decade Club!!! When I was 20 years old only old men were 60. Now I don't consider someone old until they're in their late 80's. A large part of age is the way you think. I have met old men who were only 30.

Well, I got some good practice and "Delta Blues" is starting to sink in. Got the first half pretty much going good at 75% of speed.
My new practice routine seems to be going well for me and I've got a daily strength/finger-independece workout going too. Hope to see some benefits soon.
Onward with more Delta Blues...

Don't remember if I wished you a happy birthday Bruce, but happy half-a-week late birthday! And hey, if you noodle around along with a backing track, you can count it as improvising practice

Hey guys, well, it's kinda late to post in this thread, but I'll do it anyway as I'd like to share these news It seems after all those years of on-and-off guitar playing it finally gets serious. I'll participate in a Blues band workshop that's aimed at working through a set-list of Blues standards. If everything works out well, the whole thing is supposed to lay out the setting for the participating musician's further collaboration as a band (well, let's see how that works out). The line-up should consist of vocals, guitar, bass, drums and brass section... it's probably very similiar to what Joachim did a while ago, but as far as I know there some really accomplished musicians involved here, so although I already have been part of a few jam sessions already it's needless to say that I'm kind of stage feverish - I guess I really have practice very focussed in the time to come for reviewing what I learned before I dare to put it into practice. With my new job and this upcoming task I got lots of things to juggle right now, which is the reason I can't participate as actively on the forum these days as I'd like to... but I'm still around Have a great week, t. T-Bone, That sounds very exciting, and would be more than a little scary for me. This will really give you something to focus on and help you set some goals. Good luck and have fun.

Tbone,
That sounds way cool! I've sort of been thinking that I should flesh out some repertoire of songs, as well. That workshop sounds like fun and a good way to challenge yourself. Keep us posted on it.
