What are you guys GAS'ing for these days? I enjoy practicing fingerplaying after I bought a blues fingerplaying introduction. I have my eye on this guitar: www.thomann.de/gb/ibanez_aeg24ii_tgb.htmIt seems cool you can also record it easily. But I don't mind practicing fingerplaying on an electric guitar, so I probably won't buy one right now.

I'm gassing for an acoustic guitar too, something like this: www.seagullguitars.com/seagull_natelement_natcherry.html It's got a pickup too so you could run it straight into the PC or amp. I love doing some blues fingerpicking and of course I bought those two books full of Christmas songs that I wanna make you guys listen to in December After that I'd like a semi hollow body exactly like the one you've got Joachim Also want to get some drum software, my drum machine serves its purpose but it sounds extremely primitive in comparison to the stuff they've got these days. Still want a Peavey Valve King tube amp as well, but I think we're getting into 2016 by then lol.

If you go looking for one, be careful that you get a new model with Ibanez Super 58 pickups; older models of that guitar have other pickups with poor reviews. So buying a used 2-3 years old model probably isn't a good idea, since it will have the older pickups...

Thanks for the advice, I'll definitely get a new one (hopefully I'll be able to afford it this year lol). I was wondering, how does it sound when played acoustically? I've never played a semi hollow body; do you get something resembling an acoustic guitar sound that might be suitable for fingerpicking stuff?

It's not at all bad for fingerpicking, I think, and certainly a more acoustic sound that my strat. Maybe the high E string has a little too much trebble, but still OK. The stock strings are light top heavy bottom .10s, so the other strings sound pretty good. Maybe excessive fingerpickers would put .11s on, but I actually like the feel, the strings and the tone, so I haven't changed strings yet. Edit: I've only fingerpicked with it plugged in, as Bruce points out.

I'm gassing for a nice Ibanez semi-hollow body, too. The AM 153 model is the one I've had my eye on... www.musiciansfriend.com/guitars/ibanez-artstar-series-am153-semi-hollow-electric-guitarand someone's got a birthday comin' up fast. Jack, my semi-hollow body does have some "acoustic" sound, but way less than a real acoustic guitar. You can certainly practice with it unplugged, but you couldn't record it without plugging it in. Joachim, that's a nice looking acoustic, too. I would definitely encourage to get an acoustic with a built in pickup. Having played around trying to record my acoustic, I think recording it "plugged in" gets the best sound, hands down. I probably just don't have good enough mic's and a good enough "sound space" to record an acoustic guitar well, and I bet you'll find the same thing. Bruce

All nice looking wishes and I hope you all get to make them yours. Honestly, since I just got my dream guitar and a decent tube amp I have no major gas items. I do want to expand on my pedals, maybe next year a nice american Strat would be nice. Only thing really eating at me currently I sap getting a better recording setup audio interface decent mic and some studio monitors.
For you guys looking into acoustics check out Alvarez guitars, they are great bang for the buck. I tried out an AM 153 felt great, love that color also.

Jack, I made a recording of the first exercise in my fingerpicking book - I feel silly posting something like this, but I wanted to give you a soundcheck of the Ibanez. soundcloud.com/joachim-dahl-1/ibanez-as93-fingerstyle-demoI actually think the sound on the recording is pretty good - this was very quickly done, and obviously my technique isn't very good.

That sounds absolutely beautiful Joachim, thanks so much for posting that! I may just put off buying an acoustic, at least for the time being, and start GAS'ing for that Ibanez first and foremost I love that fingerpicking book too, there's some great stuff in there that's really fun to play.
