John Ganapes - Texas Rock.mp3 (871.83 KB) I just finished this first study from BYCU and I also added a little solo work to go with. As with all my efforts though this is definitely a work in progress and can take more improvement.

I really liked that Formulaone! The rhythm track is really solid and that's an awesome guitar tone, and the lead has some pretty darned nice licks in it! Great job and welcome to the forum.

Welcome Formulaone!
This must be the best first contribution to the forum by far. How long have you played for? You sound very accomplished...
Cheers Joachim

Thanks, I'm going to keep up with this course. I really like the blues and BYCU is an excellent course, and I just enjoy listening to the songs on the CD. Hopefully I'll be able to play like that eventually with study and practice.

I sound accomplished? Thanks for the compliment. I actually started with the Metal Method course a few years ago and enjoyed it, but I actually really enjoy playing the blues. I was always posting blues improvs on their site and finally decided to take a blues course. I think I have made the right choice with BYCU. I plan to take MBYCU after this...and the other courses as well. Let's face it, so much of what you hear in hard rock is derived from this anyways.

Nice job, formulaone! You may just be starting out on Blues You Can Use, but you've obviously got some basic playing and recording skills. I expect you'll make great progress. Also another welcome from here, good to have you on board.

Welcome Formulaone, good start with the course, I don't think anyone has posted a solo over the lesson, very interesting!! I also had a go at the Metal Method course a few years ago but flunked out on the stage 5 solo . If I remember right I had this course, Metal Method and Troy Stetina all going at the same time...BIG MISTAKE!!! Spread myself way to thin.

Welcome to the forum, Formula 1. Nice playing on that recording. You've really hit the ground running. You'll leave the rest of us in the dust at this rate. Keep in mind that we try to help each other improve. That means we'll give you an honest opinion of your playing on the recordings that you upload and point out things that could be improved. The object is to help you to correct things that you might not even be aware of. It can be like a slap in the face when you upload something you're proud of and somebody here points out the flaws. After awhile you'll get use to these "smackdowns." You'll find that these honest critiques are much more beneficial to your playing improvement than having someone say "That's great!" to your face, and snicker behind your back. Since this is the 1st recording you've submitted, and it is probably the best 1st recording ever uploaded, I won't mention anything about the flat bends. I hope you hang around for a while and continue uploading recordings and participating in the forum. If you stick with BYCU to completion you'll get a real feeling of accomplishment, and then it will on to the brutal reality of "More Blues You Can Use" which will convince you that John Ganapes' has a sadistic streak. Once again, welcome.

Thanks for the useful comments people. I'm working on Study 2: Blues Rock Tune with more solo work.
