All the talk of video taping peeked my interest in trying a video. Do any of you use garageband for recording the audio while using say photo booth to record the video? How do you sync the video and audio clips? Appreciate any help, I have watched a few videos but seems like you start recording in GB first then start the video recording then later cut and synch manually.

I use Reaper for audio and Sony Vegas Movie Studio for video, but I imaging the procedure is somewhat similar regardless. I'll record the video and audio at the same time, so I've got a video in my Logitech Webcam file and, once I'm done rendering etc., I'll have an audio track from Reaper. I put both of those in the Vegas Movie Studio, and they're represented by these horizontal "filmstrip" looking things. I'll start playing them and of course they'll be out of sync, so I'll drag the video "filmstrip" left or right until I get it synchronized with the audio track. I usually just play the beginning over and over and watch my right hand as it picks or strums the first note/chord, and get that synchronized with the audio.
Then once you've got that all done you can trim the beginning and end to get rid of excess video footage etc.

Thanks that was very enlightening, I have been to that page before but didn't realize there was a video. I think the three hit thing is they key to my question.

Rich,
I think the Mac environment makes this kind of stuff really easy. I record my video on my iPhone, but I think you could do the same using Photo Booth and the built in camera on your computer. My iPhone video imports into iPhoto. I record my audio in Logic, but Garage Band would do the same. From there, I use iMovie to put it all together - import both the video and audio into iMovie, turn off the audio in the video recording, and use iMovie to "line up" the audio and video recordings (I use the visible audio signals to "line them up"). It sounds kind of confusing, but just try it - my first few videos were not very good technically (not just the guitar playing!), but you can improve them pretty quickly. I'm happy to offer what help I can.

Maybe I can use my iPad to record the video and use my computer for the audio. The guy in the video said he had his amp mic'd and was listening to the backing track through speakers, I wonder how he keeps the backing track audio from being picked up by the amp mic or if it even matters.
Well maybe I can blam the poor guitar playing on the video.

An iPad should work just fine for recording video (unless it's the first generation model, without a built-in camera, like mine). As far as mic'ing an amp, I tried it and never got a sound I was real happy with. I've heard it said that you need a good amp, a good mic, and a good room... Anyway, I think plugging in directly it is way easier to get decent sound. Of course, YMMV, so do what works for you. If you've got a mic sitting directly in front of an amp (and not near your computer speakers), you would pick up very little (if any) sound from the computer speakers. Like I said before, I thought this guy's video did a great job of covering the basics of how to record a video of yourself playing with a backing track. You can certainly modify the process to taste.
