That sure makes me skeptical of the conventional wisdom that fat strings = fat sound. I guess you'd have to experiment yourself on your own guitar to see if there is really a discernible difference in sound.

The main thing I noticed when switching from 9's to 10's was the chords - when playing without my guitar plugged in, 9's sounded like a bit of a rattle trap when strumming a chord, while 10's sounded like a full, rich guitar chord. Of course I don't hear BB playing a lot of rhythm. Maybe for soloing it doesn't make much difference.

Thing I noticed was the ability to keep all the notes in a chord in tune, lighter strings make it easier to bend one note out of tune.

Thanks for sharing that, nursedad. Good to hear from you again! I don't think anyone would accuse Billy Gibbons or B. B. King of having "thin" tone. Very interesting, and a kick-ass performance as well. Bruce (note the cheap sunglasses, no rhinestone shades)

I have been busy coaching High School Soccer and fighting Pneumonia. You know you are getting old when you get pneumonia!

I remember you saying you'd be laying low for a while due to the coaching season. Sorry to hear about the pneumonia - I'm sure none of us need anything else to tell us we're getting old! But, I've always said that getting old beats the alternative...

Sorry to hear about the pneumonia Nursedad, hope your recover soon. Seems like a bad year for illnesses - I had a lousy cold that hung on for weeks and weeks.

... I've always said that getting old beats the alternative... Bruce You won't believe this, but I use that EXACT phrase all the time (probably too much) and I've never heard anybody else say in exactly the same way. Did we meet in another life? (Twilight Zone music is playing in the background.)

Just take another dilithium crystal and beam me up, Scottie. Bruce
