I know this is going to sound like a joke but am serious as why to Blues Guitar players wear suits?
I was watching 'In Session' with Albert King and Stevie Ray Vaughn. Albert King was wearing a Suit and got me thinking about B.B King, and John Lee Hooker. Google was very fruitful with answers either. So I thought I'd ask y'all blues guitarists round here. Why do blues guitar players wear suits?

I would guess it's just tradition. Way back when, if you were getting up on stage you dressed real nice, and they just stuck with it. Same with jazz I believe. I think Mick should start wearing a suit and tie in his videos. Maybe get a matching bow tie for the dog.

I think maybe it's time to buy a suit then, some kind of hat.....I'm in Texas so a cowboy hat could work...and some shades.....maybe

It's just cool and sophisticated. I hate the way SRV dressed. I was into Flamenco for a long time (I live in Spain) and I remember someone asked an old Flamenco singer why he always wore a suit. He answered, "To show respect for my audience." Maybe the Blues guys felt the same way.
Also, most of the old Blues guys grew up in abject poverty, and to be able to wear a suit might have been a way to show people that they were making money (even if they really weren't).

Yeah, Phil, SRV was a blues guitar god, but fashionista...well, just goes to show that if you're good at one thing, you gotta be bad at something else. I could listen to him play all day long, though.

Oh, yeah, and Marc, not just any suit will do. Don't be posting on Youtube playin' the blues in any seersucker or polyester leisure suit. Pretty much needs to be black or charcoal gray. Also probably the baggier the better, with skinny lapels. Of course, rules were made to be broken... Bruce
