Ok, so if you don't already know, my guitar is called Paloma (see here: bluesyoucanuse.freeforums.net/thread/348/allow-me-introduce-paloma)well, as I was putting her in her Fender branded case the lid fell forward and marked her (on the edge of the main body - pretty much where she rests on my leg when playing). Ok, you're probably saying "it's not a big deal, wpb" but in the past it would have been! My books are kept immaculate (no creases or marks on them), my guitar stuff is kept clean and maintained as best as possible simply because I see things as irreplaceable (books go out of print, manufacturing stops on various hardware, etc) so I treat them with white-gloves and nobody is allowed to use/borrow them... but this time, with paloma my prised (and only) guitar, it's different... it has dawned on me that Paloma is replaceable. There will always be another Strat I can purchase because the skill is in me!!! Essentially, my learning and playing is not tied to Paloma. Perhaps this is something many know as a matter of "obvious" fact, but it's given me a sense of freedom from my OCD related to my guitar. Anyhow, Paloma now has character! She has a mark that tells of my history with her - nothing can change that! Am I mad?!?!

WPB, it seems to me that some people will pay good money to buy a new guitar that looks well used and has paid its dues, but to me that's just a con, it's much better if the guitar looks well used because you've played the hell out of it , Paloma is on the same journey as you WPB and now bears scars to prove it, she is a big part of it otherwise you would not have given her a name.

WPB, I am like you I want everything clean and well maintained, those accidents hurt thought even if they can be replaced and add character. But you do make an excellent vp pint the talent comes from the player.

It's kind of like when you kids first have to get stitches - you don't love them any less though they're scarred! Seriously, though, there's nothing more beautiful than an old guitar that you yourself have played the hell out of for years...and has the marks that show it!

character is the key word. I'm not afarid of character, i always buy used with 'character'. If your really worried you can purchase an body from fender or even though a 3rd party. They sell on ebay as well. If it was me and I didn't not like the character I'd stick an San Antonio Spurs sticker on it.
Got any pictures of Paloma scars?

I know that feeling all too well unfortunately. I always sit in front of my desk while I play, and one time I leaned forward to grab a book, the bass flopped forward against the edge of the desk, and... I've had my Strat for almost 30 years and other than some light surface scratches on the back from belt buckles, it's in fine shape. Had my Ibanez for over ten years and it's still in mint condition. My brand new bass didn't even last 6 months before picking up a major ding Oh well, after a while you just don't notice it anymore.

I've heard of people intentionally "distressing" guitars to make them look older. That makes no sense to me at all. The height of absurdity is the beat up guitar that Kenny Wayne Shepherd often plays.

I worked in a pawn shop for a spell in the late 90's early 00's when this fad first started up. Some people really like the road worn look. I do have to admit when some of the finishe on my old MIM Tele started to come off right along the 7th and 9th freat i thought it was awesome. However that was the the cause of my own hard work and not paying extra for someone else to do it.
Hope all is good with your guitar

You can try online pawn shops they might ship to overseas. Probably kill the experience though.
