Hello! I am practicing Preaching Gospel Blues for now (my hand is already completely destroyed ) and I definetely need some advice What is correct fingering to play this 7-7-7 partial chord after 5-6-7 one in measures #1 or #5 ? First of all, I tried to use my ring finger to press all three strings down on 7th fret, but while second and third strings sound okay, the fourth string always becomes muted if I try to do it this way. Then I tried to use my ring finger to press fourth string and my pinky to press third and second, but it is sooo tricky for me, because my pinky is so weak So which way is correct? or maybe I'm missing something? Here is fast pic of what I'm talking about

The "correct" way is whatever way is comfortable for you. Having said that, I think the most logical fingering would be to bar it with your ring finger because your ring finger is already on the 4th string 7th fret. Don't worry right now about the 4th string being muted. It's something you can work on, but the fact is that nobody would ever notice that you are only playing 2 notes instead of 3. Plus the note that is being muted is played immediately before and immediately after the chord you are having a problem with. Again, nobody will ever know the difference. I've played many studies with chords that very from the written music (usually not playing all of the notes in a chord) and no one has ever noticed it.

Yeah I do it the same way Phil's talking about, just roll the ring finger down to cover the other two strings. On the previous 5-6-7 chord if you position your ring finger just slightly higher (towards the ceiling) than normal on the 4th string, so that instead of the string being perfectly centered under your fingertip it's a bit more towards the pad side of the finger (away from the fingernail), then when you roll your finger down it should still keep that 4th string fretted.
Takes some messing around with to get it just right.
