What happened to Wannaplayblues? He's been MIA for awhile. This week I got in 6 days of practice for a total of 8.5 hrs. Most of it was spent on learning MBYCU "Cheap Runs" and struggling to play "Drivin' Blues" up to tempo. "Cheap Runs" is coming along nicely. I can play along with the slow tempo version thru bar 8 and am currently working on bars 9 & 10. "Drivin' Blues" is almost ready to record. Last week I couldn't play it any faster than 90% of full tempo. This week I finally got it up to full tempo with some problems in only 2 measures. I tried the method of playing it faster then playing it slower. I played it several times at 110% of full tempo. It was real sloppy in places, but when I went back down to full tempo it kept getting easier. This method seems to work. You force yourself beyond your capability for very short periods and gains are noticeable . I also transcribed the 1st solo of Magic Sam's version of "Sweet Home Chicago." It's tedious and time consuming, but like anything else I imagine it will become easier with time. I didn't get in much review of older material or noodling around time this week. It was all work and no play. I'll lighten things up this coming week. I don't want to get burned out.

Well for me I am still working on Getting Funky, I can play through at speed but a couple of the runs don't sound smooth, anyway on about my 230th take trying to record it, had several takes that were pretty good but I want a better take.
Practice was spotty, but made up on Friday and sat so I got a solid 7or 8 hours in also.

I got Big Bends recorded this week, I guess I'm moderately satisfied with it. The timing in the beginning was a bit off, a couple of the early bends were a little questionable, I totally messed up that really cool lick in the middle with the reverse bend - doubly disappointing because I was playing that lick really well, except for that particular take . There were a couple of half-missed notes in the second half. I was really happy with my vibrato in the whole song though. Just got started on True Trem Blues. I can play through it at slow tempo except for that series of licks in bars 17-18. Working on the rhythm part too, I think I've more or less got the feel for that. Now starts the arduous process of figuring out the bass line lol. Worked some on Crescent City Rhythm in the R&B book. That rhythm part is going to take a lot of practice to get it tight with the drums and I still haven't found a guitar sound that I'm happy with for it either. Did some improvising along with backing tracks as always. I'm rather happy with my improvising, I think the main thing is that I need to add more variety to it. And in pursuit of that goal I ordered no less than 4 guitar instructional books this week Haven't got any of them yet though. Just walking up to the mailbox all excited and finding nothing but junk mail I'll write some little reviews of them in next week's update thread assuming they arrive by then. It was an okay week of practice; got some stuff accomplished but was feeling kind of lazy too.

Played my acoustic a few times this week. Still haven't got my music studio updated. Again, been busy with work, other stuff... I still don't count myself out.

I finally feel I am starting to move forward again. I have a firm grasp of the first halves of BYCY and BRYCU, and I am working on BYCU #11 and BRYCY #11 in parallel.

I'm still working on Chord on Bleu, pretty much still the same as last week, still nowhere near getting that "relaxed" feel to the tune. I've not put all my practice time into this though, for a bit of light relief I've been working on a couple of other lessons that I started and had not completed (alternate picking and an easy version of Highway to Hell.) I am however suffering a bad bout of GAS, I am thinking of trading in one of my lesser used guitars for a Tele

I've been working on a couple of other lessons that I started and had not completed (alternate picking and an easy version of Highway to Hell.) I have too much on my plate right now, but I also want to have a crack at some AC/DC tunes later - perhaps when I finish BUCY. I'll try "Highway to Hell" and "Night Prowler"; it should be possible to learn those after BUCY, if you put your mind to it...

What happened to Wannaplayblues? He's been MIA for awhile. Thanks - it's truly encouraging to be part of a community who notices when you're not there - it shows true care and concern. I am privileged to know you all here. Life has gotten in the way, so playing has been less of late Though in the midst of everything going on I managed to do a little acoustic number (which I have posted). Hope to get some Gospel Blues done - if life allows. Rest assured, I'm not leaving this place any time soon

Good to see you back WPB! Was wondering what had happened to you. I know how the whole life getting in the way thing goes lol, I'm sitting here with a lousy cold trying to practice while stopping to blow my nose every two minutes
