Fourth song from More Blues You Can Use. Thought I'd try my hand at making one of those newfangled video things

That was SMOKIN', Jack. I bet that put Mick's dog to sleep from half way around the world. Nice looking strat, too. Glad to see you join the video fray!

Ok that was great, now I am worried that I will never get to that level. Well I got to get past bending the blues one day. Great job hope I get there.

Wow, Jack, now I'm really impressed. Are we still allowed to call you by your 1st name? Can you tell us the details of how you recorded the video?

Thanks Phil! Yeah you can call me Jack or I also answer to "hey you!" I got this camera: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00IJE0ISS/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 The price seems to have gone up now, I think I paid $6 + $5 shipping lol. Then I downloaded this Windows Essentials thing: windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-live/essentials which includes their movie maker software. But for some reason that won't recognize my camera so I had to get this other software: manycam.com/ watch out for malware, it seems to have a ton of it. Anyhow that recognizes my camera just fine so I record using that, then go into Windows Movie Maker, import that video file into it, then import the mixed down audio track from Reaper, and you can kind of drag the audio track back and forth to get it sync'ed up to the video. Then just set a start and stop point for the video and you're pretty much done.

Thanks for the info, Jack. So, to cut to the chase - this was done with a cheap webcam? I had been wondering for quite some time if that was possible. I was concerned with the video quality, but yours is pretty good. I may have to look into this.

Yup, six dollar webcam. I tried recording in 720p but the framerate got real slow, but 480p seems fine. I'm sure you'd get better results with a better camera, but I didn't even know if I'd be able to combine my audio track with the video so I didn't want to spend any more than absolutely necessary to get started.

Yeah, I record the video for mine on my iPhone. You definitely don't need some really expensive video camera to make acceptable quality videos. The camera on the back of my iPhone is 1080p, but I've been using the one on the front (which is 720p) so I can see what I'm recording while I'm doing it. I made some with the 1080p camera, but couldn't really appreciate any difference, even when I watched them on our 46" flat screen... I've found that good lighting makes a world of difference in your video quality (low lighting = grainy images). But you also do not need some expensive lighting set up. I use 100 W CFL bulbs in cheap clip on work lamps from Home Depot. If you do this, you want the full sunlight spectrum bulbs, not the soft white ones (5500K, Not 2700K). Here's a really good video I had found with lots of info on how to make guitar videos: learningguitarnow.com/blog/recording/how-to-record-a-video-while-playing-over-a-backing-track/It's really not that hard to do and does not require a big investment - I'm certainly no "techie", but have been able to make videos... Most newer smart phones will record video, also most recent point and shoot cameras. You can also use the web cam on a lap top, or like Jack, an inexpensive usb webcam. Bruce
