So, I got Blues Licks You Can Use the other day (I couldn't resist getting it - who can blame me?) So, I got a couple of the licks down and decided to give it a go... Here's a one-take wonder I'm glad I was recording I think the timing was spot-on on the faster runs - what do you think? soundcloud.com/wannalearnguitar/slow-blues-improv-2014-08-20The tone seems a little thin at the top end, but hey, it was one-take and I'm pleased

That's pretty impressive for a one take. The sound was excellent and I didn't note any timing issues either. Great job!

Loved it! I think that's the best thing you've done yet - very soulful playing! Love your guitar sound too, just the perfect amount of distortion to bring out the sweetness of those licks.

Thanks all - your positive feedback has blown me away! I really feel "lost" in the world of improvising, never quite satisfied with my efforts. But this one went great! Kudos to @johng for the book

Wow, WPB, that was impressive. Great playing.
I discovered a couple of weeks ago that I own a copy of "Blues Licks You Can Use." I bought it last year and completely forgot about it. I haven't tried anything from it yet. Which lick was that improv based on?

Great! Only one thing - make sure your string-bends reach all the way up (a couple were a little bit flat). Well, one more thing, try repeating licks - I heard a spot or two where you could have done so with good effect. Very nice, though.

@johng thanks! Will certainly work harder on my bends! I also need to learn a few repeating licks and decide on where to use them. I just worry I'll use them badly and the whole solo will end up sounding like only three repeating notes @phil Licks 4, 5 and 10 were used along with a few others I know and anything that popped into my head at the time.
