I've had quite a good week practice wise, I have managed to post "Funky Blues" and had a bit of a sidetrack into acoustic blues which was quite enjoyable as I have rediscovered a book I have not dipped into for quite a while. I have kept AFB on simmer this week and can now surprisingly play through without using the book as a prompt using the backing track!!! Strangely, the phrase BTPB keeps coming into my mind . So, for the coming week its a definite to record AFB and move on regardless, I can always revisit . (are you listening Phil? I've set us a deadline!!) I didn't get to look at my drum software last week so its still to be done in preparation for "Easy Rhythm" which I intend to tackle next. WPB - I just love "More Minor Blues", we need to introduce a new acronym for this one PWFF...

This week I managed to get in about 6 1/2 hours of good practice spread out over 6 days. Plus I spent about 4 hours yesterday trying to record "All Forms Blues" probably 2 of those hours were spent actually playing. I wasn't satisfied with the results, so I didn't upload it. I've become obsessed with learning to play "All Forms Blues" well. Of the total of 8 1/2 hrs. that I played this week almost 6 of that was "AFB" and only 55 minutes dedicated to "Chord-on Bleu." On one level this might appear to be a good thing - I can focus intensely on one study - but I think it becomes counter-productive at a certain point. Towards the end of trying to record it yesterday I suddenly could not play a certain measure in time. No matter how many times I tried I couldn't get it. And this is after having the tune thoroughly memorized. At that point I stopped and decided to let it rest a few days before playing it again. I know I'm spending too much time on it, but there are several very useful techniques and little riffs in this study. Anyway, I'm moving on to "More BYCU" with a vengeance, and plan to review my favorite "BYCU" studies a little throughout the week. I really need to balance the time I spend on "MBYCU" with some other things I want to do. However, "MBYCU" will be my main focus for the next few months. My goal is to spend about 3 hrs. per week on "MBYCU" and any practice time beyond that will be on other things. At least that's the plan.

I WILL record "All Forms Blues" and post it on Friday or Saturday. What I recorded yesterday is not quite ready for Prime Time. The "tag" measures sound good to me when I play them, but sound horrible on the recording. I'm currently using my last set of 11's and the bends are killing me. I just received a supply of 10's and will put them on before recording "AFB" again. WPB - Yeah, "More Minor Blues" is one of my favorites. Very melodic with a very cool chord progression. Looking forward to hearing your version.

I mostly worked on Blues A La Chord from MBYCU this week. I've been practicing it up to full tempo, but it needs polish. Quite a bit of polish. I'm kind of happy with the steady progress I've been making on it for the last couple of weeks though. In the R&B book I've been working on Sweet Soul Song and just a little bit on Sixties Dance Music - I absolutely adore Sixties Dance Music; the lead is pure melody and the rhythm part is all syncopated and just a blast to play. I've just started on that though, couldn't dream of playing even the slow tempo version of it yet.
Worked a tiny bit on Funky Blues in the Rhythm book. I'd like to write a solo for it but my current method of writing solos:
A) improvise over the track B) come up with some cool sounding stuff C) continue improvising and totally forget the cool sounding stuff I came up with D) get absolutely nothing accomplished
Doesn't seem to be working. I recorded my improvising, so maybe I can at least use the phrasing from that and write something. Perhaps that will be a project this week.
I ordered a cheap web cam from Amazon that should be here this week sometime. Assuming I can somehow figure out how to combine the video from the camera with the audio from Reaper (and that's a very big assumption), who knows...maybe I'll post a video some day.

My report is pretty easy: nothing, nil, goose egg, nada. At least it leaves LOTS of room for improvement...

I returned from vacation and started working on Bending the Blues again, fingers hurt, bends are coming along. Thinking about recording some of the notes I need to bend up to to practice my bending. Playing along with the practice track I seem to be hitting the notes ok its when I don't have a reference thats killing me.
I plan on going ahead and ordering more blues you can use and BRYCU sand start working on the rhythms. I also practiced my shuffle rhythms and scales up to pattern 4, and played Smoke on the Water accompanied by my son on drums, and sweet home Alabama.
Well back to work tomorrow.

Still working on brycu #10 and Lazy Day Blues. Brycu #10 is a monstrous lesson - it took me several days to just to learn the song (not playing it) - and now I am working on playing those slide ins smoothly; John G's advice about "light touch" seems really important.
In Lazy Day Blues measure 10 keeps throwing my timing off - it's kind of akward with 1.5 beats rests in there so you have to start playing off beat.
Hope to get them done this week.
