I started on "More BYCU" today. I'm still working on that last study in BYCU, but I always work on 2 studies at a time. I jump between them to avoid getting burned out. I may even start dabbling with 3rd one if I get into a rut. I took a look through the book and read some of the lessons. This book is laid out much better than BYCU in that the lesson material directly relates to the study that's in the lesson. That was the only shortcoming with BYCU as far as I'm concerned. There is a tremendous amount of material in this book. Some of the lessons are pretty extensive plus you get the rhythm part tabbed out for each study. That's like a separate course in itself. When you take into consideration the quality and amount of material and that this course only costs about $18.00, it's definitely the best deal going. I recently bought a mini course from another Internet teacher (I couldn't resist, it had a cool name ). It's one 12 bar progression with about 5 really good licks and it cost me $22.00. There's no comparison. I bought More BYCU back in October, tried the 1st study, and quickly put it back on the shelf. I wasn't ready for it then, but after diligently working through BYCU I think I'm ready now.

I have a long but fun journey to get to that book but I can't wait to get to it. I am ordering Rhythm and Blues you can use and Jazzing the blues tonight to complete my collection.

I agree bang for the book these are it, i have the other course as well and was doubling it with bycu. However, i have since stopped and went to bycu only. A lot i attribute to the Forum group it helps keep you motivated, but the book material is well laid out. We better be careful John Will raise the book price.
Phil there aren't any bars in this town that plays blues, where we can have beer? There was a.led Sep band playing at las dunas but we didn't go out. Will give details.in person.

Yeah there's so much stuff in MBYCU. Only problem is I feel like I should practice for another year before working on it lol. These songs are hard!

Think of the personal satisfaction and feeling of accomplishment you'll have when you finish. Plus, someday you could be that guy who goes to the local guitar store and impresses all the wannabes who never practice but have cool guitars.

LOL Hey if you want some drum rhythms to record your MBYCU songs with I could post the ones I used over on SoundCloud. I did the bass part too for Cheap Runs.

I look forward to moving on to that book. I'm buying one BYCU-series based book a month.
Of all the books I've bought, I wish I'd stuck with BYCU sooner. Am glad I'm working diligently through it now - and (sadly) only now realise how good a tutor @johng is in his writing. The content makes *so* much sense - and I get what he explains!

Thanks for the offer. I wonder why John G. didn't do backing tracks for MBYCU. It seems to me that if you had the unmixed master recording of the full version this would be easy. But, I'm sure there's an explanation. The tracks might not be available or John doesn't own them or something.

I'll get those posted up tomorrow Phil Yeah the backing tracks for BYCU weren't the book version minus the guitar, so apparently they had to be re-recorded or something. Who knows, maybe Hal Leonard owns them.

Yeah, I had looked at MBYCU before, but thought it was way over my head. I had previously done most of BYCU, so when I got back to playing, I had settled on trying the JTB book, which didn't look so imposing to me - besides, I liked the sound of the tracks. I know our goals "shift" over time, but now inspired by this forum, I'd kind of like to "complete" some of the last lessons in BYCU, then start into MBYCU while also completing JTB. Like everyone else, I've done other books and courses, but agree that BYCU is very well laid out, logical, and progressive. MBYCU appears to be the same way, but definitely appears to "up the ante" a bit. We've all got to remember, though, that you get better by learning to play challenging material, not by replaying stuff you can already play.

You're welcome Phil, it's always nice to have some drums to play along with, even if they're just a basic thing from my ol' drum machine Tbone - bwak bwak bwak! LOL
