Jack, you're a one man band, that was great man. Drum kit next?

I'm getting flashes through my aging head of the Shirelles, Smoky Robinson and the Miracles, et al. Although this genre is not quite my cup of tea, I can still appreciate good playing when I hear it. Nicely done, Jack.

Thanks so much guys, really appreciate it! Mick, my cat already gives me dirty looks just for playing my harmonica - I don't think he'd stand for a drum kit at all LOL. Phil, yeah this style was totally foreign to me and took a lot of practice to get it going. The next one's a bit more rock 'n roll though

Jack,
Man, that sounded good all around. Your drum part fit that one really nicely. I'm assuming you recorded both the guitar parts again. I don't think playing "outside" of the blues will make you a better blues player, but it will certainly improve your all-around playing and musicianship. Very nicely done!

I agree, great playing all around - very smooth. The style surprised me when I listened to your recording - I look forward to your next recordings!

Bruce - thanks! I'm actually playing all three guitar parts on that - lead, rhythm and bass I thought that drum rhythm fit that song well too, got that nice little hi hat tappin' away there and giving it some kick. I agree about this style probably not translating directly to the blues, but it is a good technique builder - I've gotten pretty good at string rakes now and those phrases in the lead are kind of quick and yet fairly sparse, which is quite challenging. Now if I could only get those darned bends going lol Joachim - thanks! Yeah John describes that one as a "Caribbean" style, it was pretty different from the usual blues stuff. The next song in that book is kind of a combination '60s rock 'n roll and some happy jumping blues type stuff. I love it when I get to start on a new song

jack1982 - that was so cool (and not knowing anything about the R&B based BYCU book) I couldn't tell which bits you were playing and which bits were backing track stuff...

Thanks WPB! Yeah there aren't any backing tracks so I just come up with a drum line on my drum machine and then do the Bass and both guitars myself

That was really very good. You just need to tighten up the lead a little. It's not quite right on, like I think you could do if you slow it down a bit (notice a theme here today?). You have the idea, though, and the rhythm part was very good.

John, thanks so much! I always find your advice invaluable - I should have spent more time working the lead up to full tempo, but I just kind of skipped straight up to full tempo and it lost that tightness that it should have had. I'll definitely work more on smoothing things out at a slower tempo before bringing them up to full speed in the future. Glad you liked the rhythm part, that was a very fun challenge!
