I hear you, Phil. I've always said if I can't play my cheap guitars, well then I can't play a really expensive one any better.... Bruce

It's just that I've met too may guys who brag about the expensive guitars they own, but can't play. That's something I just can't get my head wrapped around. I hear you, Phil. I've always said if I can't play my cheap guitars, well then I can't play a really expensive one any better.... Bruce

Well said, I had thought it came up in the custom products on the fender site, I love the flame maple. I am not much on having to be us built either, as long as it's a quality build.

Fender do call it a Limited Edition Custom Telecaster but its not from the USA, perhaps they have a small run production section in the Indonesian factory??? I have to say though I don't agree with having to play well to justify owning an expensive American made guitar otherwise I would still be playing my Squier Strat I bought about 5 years ago

Thanks, Mick, now I feel really bad because I can't get my Squier to sound like that. I can't believe that you got that tone from the bridge pick-up. All I can get is a horrible piercing tone. Most of my uploads were done either with the neck pup alone or a bridge and middle combo for a more twangy sound.. I might also add that that was some very nice playing.

So sorry for making you feel so bad Phil, but its got a SD designed bucker in the bridge (stock) which sounds so sweet through my Marshall.

So sorry for making you feel so bad Phil, but its got a SD designed bucker in the bridge (stock) which sounds so sweet through my Marshall. Well that SD sure makes a difference. Great tone. I never understood why Fender didn't wire a tone control for the bridge pup. It's the one that needs it the most. I thought about re-wiring the neck pup tone control to also control the bridge pup since thoses 2 pups are never used together. Then I decided it would be easier to simply not use the bridge pup.

Over at the sd website they have wiring diagrams, unless you can do a pup swap pretty easily and upgrade to hardware as well. I read the pup is the single piece of an electric guitar that effects the tone the most. I hear some people say an epiphone model with gibson electrics sound almost 98 percent like the gibson model it copies.

Sixes and Nines - Lesson 10 - Blues Rhythms You Can UseWell it's been quite a while since my last vid posting, this one has been a PIG!!! I'm still way too heavy handed in making sure those slides sound properly, as you can see I'm gripping the neck for grim death, still this is where I am now, I definitely need to take those chill pills when I am trying to record .

Mick,
Nice to have you post another video. The forum has been pretty dead. I like your clean tone for that, too. It's a tough lesson, all right, but a good one to have under your belt for some slow blues. I liked how you had the rhythm part up front in your mix so that it's not hidden in the back - let's us hear it really well. Your dog is looking good, too - very chill!

I enjoyed that very much love that guitar I love the tone and the finish is awsome. What kind of dog is that? It reminds me of my ex wife's cousins dog a silver something only his was nervous as hell. I grip too hard too I thin sometimes when sliding I actually get caught on a fret.

That sounded really nice Mick, I'm working on that song too and it's a lot tougher than it sounds. You did a heck of a nice job on it.

Outstanding, Mick. Well played and I really like that clean tone.
Like Rich, I also get hung up on the frets when doing this kind of sliding. This is when you realize the importance of developing a light touch with your fretting hand.
I went over the rhythm for "Cheap Runs" for the 1st time yesterday. It's the same kind of sliding sixes/nines. I had looked at it before and figured it looked too easy to bother practicing and I could just record it over Jack's bass and drum track in a take or two. Wrong! Between the timing and trying to get the slides smooth it turned out to be a little more difficult than I expected.
I'm glad to see somebody posting a recording. I think most of us are stuck on whatever studies we are working on.

Hey guys, thanks for taking the time out to listen and for the very positive feedback, I reckon I probably put as much practice time into this as I did with AFB!! I had a quick look at lesson 11 this morning, it looks very much like it builds on lesson 10 so I am happy I put the time in . Bruce - re the mix, I took on board comments made that the last rhythm piece was to far back in the mix so I lifted it a little....well maybe more than a little....the harmonica was just a bit too loud otherwise. . Rich - my dogs a rescued retired racing greyhound just happy to have found a bit of comfort and love for the rest of her days. And you probably noticed I did a bit of getting caught on the frets when sliding. So, I've already started work on the MBYCU Chord on Bleu lesson and managing to put an hour a day into it except last night when I was doing the lesson 10 recording and vid. Onto lesson 11 now as well. Keep on with the blues guys
