I think Phil was complaining I wasn't posting stuff fast enough (or something to do with how many songs I post) so anyway here's another one Other than missing the first note of the entire song I think it sounds kind of neat. soundcloud.com/jack-c8/blues-for-charlie

Thanks Tbone I memorize some songs but so far with these jazz songs I've just been playing along with the sheet music. I really should have practiced this one more (in fact listening back to it now, a LOT more) but I got all excited about how neat that swing feel sounded and yadda yadda yadda. I'm sure the songs will get a lot more difficult once I'm further into the book and then you guys won't have to put up with my incessant "listen to this! What do you think?!?!" stuff quit as often LOL

That really sounded great Jack, someone had best tell John he needs to get writing new material 'cause you guys are just eating it up so quick

Nice job, Jack. I agree with you that "Blues For Charlie" is one of the neatest sounding tunes I've come to so far in JTB. Enjoyed hearing your rendition.

There are several fun tunes in JTB, and that is one of them. Jack, that was a nice take on Blues for Charlie.

Tommy, thanks! That is a really fun song to play, such a neat feel to it. Tbone - oh yeah I knew you were just teasing LOL. Sorry if I sounded like I took it the wrong way, I have a very self-deprecating sense of humor and can come off as sounding overly self-critical or just plain weird sometimes. That was such a fun song though that I went ahead and posted it and then afterwards I'm like "ehhh...that wasn't really ready for prime time yet." I'll have to take a look at Vai's routine. I just kind of read through the topic headings yesterday. I see he talks about ear training and I really should do more of that, but man I just hate that stuff lol. I was over at the Justin Guitar site and he's got a great ear training course over there, and I aced the first interval test but as soon as he added in some more intervals, not only could I not hear them but I couldn't even hear the first two any more. I've got that Speed Mechanics book by Troy Stetina and I used to work with that a lot, mostly for my alternate picking. I still do a bit of it once in a while, but I dunno, I practice two or three hours a day (if I can keep my caffeine level high enough) and that's all spent with the BYCU books and a bit of improvising with backing tracks - then it's time to do something else in order to keep the guitar fun. Maybe after I've been playing for longer my attention span will increase and I'll add in some exercises and that sort of thing. I just bought that Guitar Aerobics book too, it's...sitting here. I did a few of the exercises and I'm sure it would be helpful to continue with them in a structured manner, but, yeah...

I have that one as as well, and I used to be rigorous about spending 15-20mins a day working on Guitar Aerobics, but until I teach my daughter to sit quietly and unattended while I play guitar I've had to put it on hold to have some time for BYCU. You're much more advanced Jack, but for me the structured way of practicing different pickings (sweep, economy), string skipping, advice on fingerings for licks, etc., etc., really did wonders and applies directly to BUCY, so I hope to take it up again soon.

Jack, You are posting recordings faster than I can comment on them. Are sleeping with your guitar? Practicing 12 hours a day? Go on vacation for awhile so the rest of us can catch up. Phil

I'm done with the easy songs in the R&B and Jazz book so I'll be slowing down now Also broke the high E on my Strat and the only extra I had was an 11. You guys actually play with big metal rods like that? I ordered a couple of sets of those DR Pure Blues strings (10's) and a dozen extra high E's. In the meantime I'm enjoying the pure bliss of my Ibanez with the 9's on it

Let me know what you think of the DR's. I really like them and hope you do too. Phil
