Hi, I just had a comment on one of my YT BYCU vids from Jeff Shuck (I don't know his username on here) informing me that this here forum is up and running again. I got a lot of motivation and inspiration from here a couple of years or so ago and nearly got to finish the BYCU book, so maybe I need to dig Johns books out again and see if I can get a bit further this time.
All the best
Mick
Here's a link to my BYCU vids I have done so far: link

Hi Mick! Of course I remember you from the old forum! But, like me, you used a different user name back then, right? It's great to have you back, welcome!!! Greetings, t. Hi, I think I used "Steelaxe" as my previous user name.

Welcome, Mick. I watched a few of your videos - nice work on those. I was especially impressed with your split double image on "Hard Rocker". I've been making videos of John's "Jazzin' The Blues" book, as I didn't find any on Youtube. I really like how you positioned the inset so both guitars are visible - I may have to "borrow" this idea. Look forward to hearing some more!

When I was a member previously there was a guy on here called "Merrocks", he had pretty much finished John's course, his vids really helped me along, and I perhaps progressed a lot quicker at the time because of them. Thanks Merrocks if you are still here.

Hey Mick, yes, I also remember merroks well... I think it was even him who started the whole video thing on the old forum, wasn't he? It's too bad that he isn't around here anymore - Igues he either doesn't know about the new forum or he already moved on to other things... he progressed incredibly fast - as I remember it, he is a trained piano player who then started with guitar lessons and went with his teacher through the BYCU series... the great thing was he didn't only post his progress even into MBYCU, he also posted some cover songs with him singing with his great voice, all most professionally recorded in his very own home studio - wow! I guess he could be found on YT. But in respect of exchange I also hold some others in high regard, such as you (yes, I know "steelaxe") Mr. Close2u and a few others with whose names I don't recall right now... when I came back to guitar playing and found out John reopened his forum, I tried to revive the good thing with my thread "Blues I could use and more..."... in the threads intro I got quite sentimental about "the good ole' days"... so how are you now, did you get further through the BYCU series or did you also enjoy a guitar break ? Greetings, t. Hi T, did you previously post as Tony?
My vids are as far as I progressed with BYCU, I sort of hit the wall so to speak and lost focus in following any sort of course. I still played guitar pretty much every day but not really learning anything new. I did however buy a guitar "game" software called Rocksmith which I have had an enormous amount of fun playing my bass with and have recorded loads of vids of me playing some blues and classic rock tunes. I will pop in a link at the beginning of my post to a playlist. I think its about time to see if I can finish of the last few tunes in BYCU and move up to playing with the big boys on MBYCU and BRYCU. As for Mr Close2U I think he started a band, he posted a few rehearsal and set list vids a while a go but I have not seen anything lately. I am really pleased John has managed to get the forum up and running again, I feel the community is a key element in helping us all progress through the books and appreciating the Blues even more!!
Cheers
Mick

Hey Guys, thanks very much for the kind welcome back to the forum, I have dug out my BYCU book and will probably dive straight into "Rockin' and Rollin'" as far as the studies go as this is where I came to an abrupt halt some while ago. I intend to go back to the beginning of the book though with the chord work and theory etc as I did rush through it the first time around and definitely need to put in some more work here.
...so...I have a good hour before I need to get to bed, best get the guitar out and get practicing!!

Mick, I tend to rush the chord work and theory as well. Like you, I plan to go back and do the books all over again. I get too eager to move on to the next tune and skim over the meat of the lesson. I know I'm not doing my self any favors. There's a lot of valuable knowledge to be gleaned from learning the theory and chord work.

Yeah, count me in on the "meaning to go back and fully digest all the info in the book" thing too. There's so much good stuff on chord substitutions, turnarounds and alternate progressions in there. I should get going on lesson 21 where you take solos that were in one pentatonic box position and figure out how to play them in all the other boxes. I think that would be a fantastic learning experience and really open up a lot of new doors in a person's improvising.

Mick and Jack, You guys have just reminded me of how much I have left to do in BYCU. There is really an incredible amount of material in that little book. I'll probably end up rushing through it though, since I'm so anxious to get into More BYCU. Phil BTW - Welcome back to the forum, Mick. I'm another guy who snuck in while you were gone. Forum activity has really been picking up over the last few weeks. For awhile we were having like a 3 way conversation all the time.
