hi everyone, i was studying the song" delta child" last night and i found it was quite interesting . But i also noticed that there was something eerie . There should be 12 quavers in every bar in this song ,however i could not get the idea on the seventh measure which i dont think there are 12 quavers ,so i kindly ask anyone who has learned this study to tell me what is the problem .thanks

Listen to the bass and drums - they're pounding out a 4-beats-per-bar rhythm throughout the song. Maybe it's just all the rhythmic variations in the lead guitar line that's causing confusion?

yes but it seems one beat equals to 3 quavers.....eventually there(7th measure)are no 12 quavers?thz

coleso,
I agree with you - I think there is an error in the notation in the book. I think the best I can offer to try to play this is to listen to the recording and try to copy it. Jack is correct in that the beat is steady on the recording, but I think the way it is notated in the book is most likely incorrect (or at best very confusing). Of course, you also hear it said that blues runs don't always really ascribe to standard musical notation...
But I've puzzled over this same measure, trying to correlate it with the slowed down recording, and I can't make the "proper" number of beats out of the notation, either.

LOL! If I can't knock out those recordings the way you do, I'm glad I could at least answer a question better!

Bruce,
You should make John G. aware of this for his next edition of BYCU. He may already know about it, but maybe not. I have a feeling that not many people made it that far into the book and if they did maybe they didn't catch the error.

thanks, Phil
Coleso had already put this in John G's thread, but I added it again. I expect John is aware of this, but doesn't hurt to make sure. If we've all been confused by the printed music in this measure, I bet others who come across it will be confused by it, too.

Bruce I haven't gotten to Delta Child yet, but I'm sure I would have been confused if Coleso and you hadn't pointed this out. Thanks, Phil
