I made a recording of lesson 8: soundcloud.com/joachim-dahl-1/bycu-bends-slides-and-shiftsFor this recording I used my Epiphone Riviera and Focusrite 2i2 with trial versions of Reaper and Amplitube. The beginning of the track is just the dry recording without effects, then midway I have the default (and free) Amplitube setting, and in the last part I used a Fender Bassman in Amplitube, which is not free, but but free to try for 3 days. I have to agree that recording like this is very simple and gives a good sound - much better than my previous recordings. I also have little time for the guitar these days, but due to merrier circumstances - I just had beautiful and healthy baby-girl... Oh - and according to John G. I am now an intermediate blues guitarist About to practice intermediate lessons in BYCU, actually, but anyway...

Very nice Joachim! I like the sounds you're getting, especially toward the end. About the only thing I'd mention is with that little lick where you bend up a full step on the 9th fret G string followed by playing the 7th fret B and then the 7th fret E strings, try to keep those from ringing out together. And congrat's on your newborn daughter! Where's my cigar? Jut kidding, that's absolutely wonderful. Couldn't be happier for you!

Jack, You're right about that lick - just now I realize I've practiced it like that all along...

Joachim,
1st, congratulations on the birth of your daughter.
Nicely played. Keep playing around with the settings on the modeling software. You'll eventually find a sound you like. I still haven't found a sound I'm totally satisfied with, but I keep searching.
I downloaded some free modeling software that got good reviews. "Lepou" is the name. I haven't had a chance to look at it yet.

Joachim,
Big congratulations on the baby girl! Mine graduates from high school next week (thus the mother-in-law visit!). Some things trump perfect tone or good bends, no questions asked!
Nice take on Bends, Slides, and Shifts. Appreciate your demo of the different tones. I thought they improved from first to second to third. Now I think you're seeing what I was saying in that recording thread about how easy it is to get a decent sounding recording this way (plugged into an audio interface and using amp modeling software) - I think I'm seeing an amplitube purchase in your future!
Bruce

Thanks everyone!
Tbone, keeping the blues is indeed difficult now. I guess I could work on my scales until the thrill is gone...

Congratulations on your baby girl. Is this your first child? Having my son in my life is the most fun I've known. He's almost 22, but it seems like yesterday that he was born, started school, rode his bike for the first time, and on and on. Enjoy your little girl!

I already have two boys, 9 and 5 years old - yes, time seems to pass you by when you have kids...
