It's been a busy week - life happens, so not all my desired tasks were undertaken. I did manage to record a simple 12 bar blues from one of my Dave Rubin books and I took the time to manually do the rhythm section too in a bid to get more-for-my-buck The Blues Gig In A Box piece "I Can't sleep" is a nice funk feel, working my way through the rhythm section and the solo. It's quite fast and has some complicated runs that I'm trying to memorise and get in time too BYCU and BRYCU were a no-go this week. Total Rock Guitar had a bit of work at the start of the week. I pretty much have "Rockabilly" memorised and it's now getting it up to tempo. Zero on the reading front, which is disappointing,

Kudos to WPB and Jack for posting all those great recordings of their playing. I'm happy to see that the forum hasn't dissolved yet. I've been missing in action for quite a while. Haven't touched the guitar in a couple of weeks. Kinda lost motivation. Gonna try to get back into it this week.
Watched Rick Beato interview Steve Vai and Joe Satriano on Friday. They mentioned a Hendrix song (Machine Gun) which I hadn't heard in over 50 years and, frankly, completely forgot about. I searched it on YouTube and much to my surprise there is video of his performance. The Band of Gypsies (Hendrix, Buddy Miles, and Billy Cox) only recorded 1 live album. No studio albums at all.
For you younger guys who might not understand why such a big deal is made about Jimmy Hendrix just listen to this song and you'll understand. Take note that there is no elaborate pedal board. I think he just used a Fuzz Face and a Wah Wah pedal and maybe that Octavia thing he used on Purple Haze.

Thanks Phil! I've been rather unmotivated these past couple weeks too - got a lousy cold that's hangin' on forever. That Hendrix video is just sublime. From the very first note, that classic sound that's just out of this world. I'm working on getting the guitars for "Going to California" recorded - double tracked, so not only do I have to play it well - twice - but the takes need to be in time with each other as well. It's one of those songs where each bar has a little lick, which includes low notes and high notes. It really sounds like the high note is on the beat, but actually it's the low note...this takes me many many repetitions to drill into my brain Working on the mandolin a little bit; still don't have the second half of the song memorized. The verses are kind of the same as earlier in the song, but he tosses in a lot of quick little runs to spice things up. The outro is kind of a repetitive thing, but there's lots of variations in the repetition, so I'll see if I can get that sorted. Once the guitar is done, hopefully by this weekend, it will be all mandolin practice until I get that down lol. Unless I decide to work on Machine Gun instead
