It's Mother's Day here in the UK!!! So, Happy Mother's Day to all the mothers of the blues Managed to record an old ActiveMelody piece but finally up to tempo - which has me maxed out at 400 notes per minute (for a short while - see the appropriate thread). Glad to finally be able to do it with picking and not hammer-ons and pull-offs! Music reading is still ongoing - now including the low 6th string, which leads to a lot of ledger lines and my brain hates having to read them BRYCU is going, but struggling to get "9th Chord Rhythm" in my brain without the book. BYCU Delta Child is ok, but keep getting teh different bars mixed up. I'm sure I'll get there in the end. Finally, been playing around a lot with pedals and amps and think I'm finally getting somewhere with finding a tone I genuinely like ... perhaps one day I'll settle on it

I started doing a few recordings of "Going to California" and, comparing my sound to the album, it's quite obvious I'll need to use a thumb pick. Jimmy's bass notes are nice and clear, mine are muddy thuds and because I've got a big ol' dreadnought, they're boomy muddy thuds. So this will take some getting used to. All the bass notes are 5 times as loud with a pick, so I'll need to develop a very light touch, and I'll probably need to develop a heavier touch with my other fingers to keep the sound balanced out. Oh well, nothing 10,000 more repetitions won't fix.
I actually did practice the mandolin a bit, and got maybe two-thirds of that part memorized. I just need a lot more hours with that instrument to get everything in time, not get so much string buzz etc.
