I had a busy week and didn't get nearly as much practice time as I'd have liked. Just been working on "Headed for a Heartbreak" by Winger. I've got the first solo memorized and I'm working on smoothing it out and getting it up to speed. The outro solo is much longer and is one of my favorite solos of all time He's using the whammy bar for most of his vibrato stuff, and being Reb Beach, he does one hell of a job of getting a ton of emotion out of it. There's a fairly long tapping part - I looked at the transcription on Songsterr and good grief, that's borderline unplayable lol. The tab on Ultimate Guitar makes a lot more sense, so I just started learning that. I'm still undecided about trying to do the keyboard part for this song...depends on if I ever find time. Anyhow, hope you guys are all doing well and happy Labor Day And Phil - looking forward to your new video

Ditto about not getting as much practice time as I'd have liked.... I did actually work toward recording a video, but I found that it's been so long, that I hardly remember how to use my DAW program, not to mention how to record video. Anyway, I've got a "post-BYCU" concept in mind, and I'll be interested to see: (1) can I actually follow through with it, and (2) what anyone else thinks about the idea. I'm off at the lake for our US holiday, but hopefully will have something more by the next weekly update. I'm also looking forward to Phil's new video!

I got in some good practice for once, about the usual stuff. Kept practicing rhythm playing for some easy jazz songs, and worked on Jody Fischer's jazz book, where I finally got to the good stuff including improvisation practice.
I also look forward to Phil's video.

I played some almost everyday this week. Not "real" practice, but at least something. However, I have been very consistent with my (physical) exercise routine since July 1st. That's a solid 2 months. Now I'm wondering - should I make a video of me playing guitar or doing my exercise routine?

Hey guys, sorry I'm late again. Still up in the woods which poses it's own problems for checking in.
Sadly, a friend up here was killed in a crash on 7/25. I'm pretty sure I'd mentioned him indirectly--I'd learned the backbone of Blue on Black so I could show it to him. I'd happened to come upon the crash while the road was blocked for the responders to work, got a look at the truck as they took it away, thought maybe it was his, but it was far too mangled to tell for sure, got the confirmation about 6 hours later. I looped an MP3 of Blue on Black and strummed along for a while that evening, all I could think of to do, and essentially haven't touched my guitar since. It was a shock, of course, but other distractions, some good ones included, contributed as much to my lack of guitar time lately. Supposed to rain most of today so likely I'll pick it up at some point, and just go back to the same things I've talked about working on through the summer.

So sorry to hear about your friend Grampa. Give us a nice recording of "Blue on Black" in his honor.

That must have been pretty traumatic coming upon the scene only minutes after the accident happened and seeing his truck. It's a tragic reminder of how fragile life is.
