Had a pretty good week, after our electric power was restored on Wednesday afternoon. Played some every day, but still lacking direction. Saw a killer blues show Friday night - Elvin Bishop trio and Danielle Nicole. They were recording a segment for an NPR program "Live From Cain's Ballroom". Elvin Bishop is kind of a local hero (he grew up in Tulsa). He was the original guitarist in the Paul Butterfield Blues Band (before Mike Bloomfield was added as a lead guitarist), and is maybe best known for his 1970's radio hit "Fooled Around and Fell in Love". He played a whole set of blues, and I never really realized that he plays exclusively with his fingers (does not use a pick). Danielle Nicole is kind of an up and coming blues rock singer and bassist. Good fun, always good to see some live blues music!

I had a hectic week but managed to get "Women in Love" to the point of marginal presentability I'm thinking I might start on "Unchained," also by Van Halen. I think Eddie uses an Eventide harmonizer on that, so I've been debating about buying their VST plugin. I use Amplitube 4 amp sim software for everything and the harmonizers in that ain't all that great. Maybe I'll mess around with the Helix a bit. I spend a huge amount of time trying to copy Eddie's guitar sounds - Rick Beato has a video on the Brown Sound, I've been meaning to watch that. Still messing around with painting my bass - I started fine-sanding it, sanded through the paint, then repeated that process a couple of times. Sigh...it's sitting and waiting for the latest touch-up paint to dry now. I got the back done and put some polishing compound on it; it looked "okay" but if you hold it up to the light you can see all kinds of tiny scratches in the finish. I dunno, I might just say eff it call it good enough. It's got "character"

Man, I didn't know Elvin Bishop was still around. That's cool you got to see him, Bruce. Glad to hear you got power restored. Tornadoes scare the hell out of me.
Good luck with the paint job, Jack. That whole thing just sounds frustrating.
The only thing different for me last week was I bought a D'addario Micro Headstock Tuner. My Snark fell apart when I tried to change the battery. It's tiny and very low profile, but has a big, bright, easy to see letter on the little screen.

Glad to hear Bruce had a good week - nothing new for me either. Still working on the same things, and got another lesson today.

Sorry I'm late guys. Was starting to get real smoky arounf here from wildfires in the region and beyond, but luckily we've finally gotten some rain. Playing every day but not real focused, working out random parts of "From the Beginning", "You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet", and "China Grove".
