I had one of those busy weeks and didn't get as much practice time in as I'd have liked. Still working on that Van Halen song - I can play the intro at about three-quarters tempo, and the rest of it at full tempo; but it needs a LOT more practice lol. Still haven't figured out how Eddie got the guitar sound for the tapping part, I've tried every chorus and flanger and downloaded a few more free VST's but I'm not even in the ballpark. If you guys remember almost a year ago, I tried repainting my bass but that didn't work out so well. I finally got sick of waiting for professionals I found online to call me back, so yesterday I put a few coats of Krylon on it. Looks pretty good Only have one small drip I'll sand off tomorrow, and then put a few more coats on it. Maybe try some fine sanding with extremely fine sandpaper to get the little bit of orange peel off of it - or who knows, maybe after 3 more coats it won't even need it. Even if I screw it up, I'll just toss another coat of paint on it and call it done, as it looks acceptable even without any fine sanding. Hope you guys are all doing well!

That looks nice, Jack!
I am still working on rhythm playing for Autumn Leaves and All of Me. Also practicing some ideas about using an altered scale over a 2-5-1 progression using an augmented V7+ chord.

Played/practiced every day this week. Still working on the same thing - learning to improvise over the changes using some specific approaches. The first week doing this was very tedious. Then it suddenly became fun and has reignited my enthusiasm. I now look forward to picking up the guitar everyday to see what I can come up with. Joachim: You're really talking my language when you mention 2-5-1 progressions and V7+ chords.
Jack: You are a patient man.

Another good week for me--the fishing really picked up, haha. Guitar was pretty good too. It's really a joy to be able to play standing again without a large gut completely ruining the ergonomics.
I've got two "classic rock" style songs on my list to learn this summer, "China Grove" (thanks, Jack for the suggestion) and ELP "From the Beginning". Got a suggestion from elsewhere for Cream's cover of "Born Under a Bad Sign". So one British Blues in the mix too, although I doubt I'll get every bit of that one note-for-note. I'll probably add something from BTO, maybe "Hey You" or "Takin' Care of Business".
Nice work Jack.

Sorry to be late to the game. Had a big storm roll through late Saturday night/early Sunday morning, knocked out power to a lot of the city (including our condo). Sunday temps weren't too bad (mid-80's), but Monday it was mid-90's, and they were saying it may be a week or more to get everybody's electric back on. So we ended up yesterday emptying out the fridge and freezer, and heading to our lake place (where power is still on). It was great to have AC and ice again last night when we got here! So didn't play at all Sunday or Monday. I do keep a guitar at the lake, so hopefully can get some practice in while we're here.
