I believe that this is the first time in almost 9 years that nobody posted a weekly update on Sunday. WPB suggested we start a weekly update way back on Aug 4, 2014 and we've been doing it ever since. It's hard to believe it's been that long.
Somebody must have a comment about that (or maybe a eulogy).

I was going to post something Sunday but I'm going through one of those periods where I feel like I can't play a damned thing on guitar. Trying to do the intro for "The Trees" on classical guitar and it's just all fret buzz and I've gotta press down on those barre chords so hard (to try to get rid of the buzz) that after 5 minutes my thumb is killing me, and then I play even worse. And I go to YouTube and there's some stinkin' kid playing it absolutely perfectly It's no big deal, I just need to get motivated again. Maybe start working on a different song. Yeah it's been dead around here for a long time. WPB hasn't been around in a while, Grampa just checks in on rare occasion, Joachim is rarely seen, never see Mick anymore and I guess Tony left the internet completely.

Hi guys, I'm still lurking and plugging away at reviewing the 3 Stetina books (Lead, Rhythm and Total Rock). Not on to new material yet except the 2nd solo "To The Stage" which I am still falling over at about 90%, I will keep plugging away for 15 mins or so a day as it has always been a barrier for me. A few weeks ago I went and purchased a steering wheel and pedal set for Assetto Corsa sim racer. BIG mistake!!! Very addictive . I still intend to start recording again when I hit new material. Take care guys

Take care guys Mick, so good to hear from you! I hear you about racing games, I originally bought a steering wheel and pedals to play Gran Turismo 4 way back on the PS2, then it was GT 5 and 6 on the PS3, and I also loved Need for Speed: Shift and Shift 2: Unleashed. On the PC I played Assetto Corsa, but I think it was still in beta testing at that time. I really liked "Race Room Racing Experience." Well anyway try to find some time for that guitar

I am also still lurking around. I started taking lesson again, and my teacher convinced me join a band with a drummer and bass-player looking for a guitarist. That is a new development, so I need to get used to it. I am just strumming along to some beginner songs right now, but that's fine, and something I need to get better at. And it certainly gives me more purpose with the limited practice time I have.

Wow, guys! I'm away for the better part of a week, and I miss the eulogy for our BYCU forum! I'm still living among the boxes, but now they are in our new condominium, which is still a construction zone. I will probably get the last stuff out of our old apartment tomorrow! I'm probably still at least a week to 10 days away from having any kind of functioning guitar setup again...
Well, our troops have grown pretty thin, as Jack delineated above. What do you guys think? Is it time to throw in the towel on the BYCU forum? I'm as guilty as anyone - I haven't recorded anything since we disbanded Blues Licks You Can Use. Maybe we should all agree to take a month (or a few months?) off. 9 years! Wow! I guess I've had fun, because that time has really flown by. I do think my playing has benefitted from participation in this forum (maybe not as much as I would hope in 9 years time, but I think that is on me). Well, I'm going to keep hanging on for at least a while, and now I feel I really need to try to get some BYCU material going again!

If I'm honest, I have to say that one of the things that attracted me to Jazz is that nobody expects you to play anything exactly as someone else. If fact it's frowned upon and I'm perfectly happy with that. I avoid listening to any of those prodigy types. They are nothing more than motivation killers. I'll bet you a dollar to a doughnut that Tony is lurking under a new name.

I'm going to start playing once a week with another guitarist again soon. It's very different from playing along to backing tracks and a lot more enjoyable.

Since you're not I guess we'll just have to struggle a little and keep this thing going. I still can't believe we've been doing this for so long and I haven't made any significant progress in all that time.

So far we have worked on "Have You Ever Heard the Rain", "Autumn Leaves", and a Danish pop-song you wouldn't know. I have to get started on "Let's Give Them Something to Talk About" for next week's rehearsal. In posts like this I always end up philosophizing about things I should have done and practiced in the past. This time around I've no regrets - I just going to learn to play solid rhythm for songs like those, and see where things go.
