Happy Easter! I practiced quite a bit last week, still grinding away at "Into the Arena." Making progress - very, very slow progress. The few parts I can play well I'm polishing up, the parts that give me problems are getting somewhat less problematic, and the parts I can barely play at all, well, now I can kind of, sort of play them a little bit Full tempo still seems many miles away though. I'm always messing around with trying to stay relaxed; one day I'll be nice and relaxed but can't build up any speed, so I start putting a little muscle into it and I can play faster. The next day I'm putting some muscle into it, but then concentrate on relaxing and suddenly I can play faster. I thought this guitar playing thing was supposed to make sense?!?! It's kind of my goal this year to increase my speed, so although I already have a half-dozen books on exactly that subject, I got a couple new ones. "Alternate Picking Guitar Technique" and "137 Guitar Speed and Coordination Exercises," both by Chris Brooks. Hoping to play like this by the end of the week Hope you guys are all doing well!

Oops - looks like Jack and I were typing at the same time. I'll try to delete the other thread.
Happy Easter to everyone! Slow guitar week for me, as we continue to dismount our apartment in preparation for moving. Saw Mimi Fox in concert Friday evening, and she was absolutely phenomenal. I would highly recommend giving her latest CD a listen. It is a tribute to Wes Montgomery, and she covered a lot of these songs in her show, as well as some jazz standards, a couple of solo guitar pieces, and a couple of Wes Montgomery pieces. If she plays in your area, I would highly encourage attending. Sadly, I would estimate this small venue was only 1/3 to 1/2 full.

Nothing exciting to report here. Last week I submitted my 8 bar solo for the Jazz collaboration. Yesterday I got the chart for a very small harmonization part for the same project. Looks like I'll have to record something again. Jack - you are really getting fast. You may not notice it, but I sure do. Personally, I've given up on playing faster. I tried playing with a pick yesterday and couldn't even hold on to the thing. Bruce - yeah, it's sad to see such a low turnout for somebody of that caliber. And this is at a time when Jazz guitar is growing in popularity if you consider the number of YouTube channels dedicated to Jazz guitar as a gauge.
