I had a decent week, got 2 hours of practice on 4 days and one hour on the other 3. Just working on "Into the Arena." There's a rhythm part, then the first solo, repeat the rhythm part, then a second solo, then an interlude and finally some arpeggios and the outro solo. I've been spending most of my time on the parts before the interlude, currently getting it up to 80% of full tempo. After the interlude, I've got most of it memorized but haven't really begun working it up to speed yet. There's a crazy lick in the second solo that starts on the 3rd fret low E and rockets up all the way to the 21st fret on the high E (with a 1 1/2 step bend). That's going to be challenge to get up to 90% tempo, much less full speed lol. I'm not sure I'm playing it right either; the tabs are completely wrong but there's a Japanese guy on YouTube who teaches the song and I think he's got it mostly right, though I'm going to experiment with leaving out some of the slides because it just doesn't sound quite right. Other than that, "Diary of a Madman" is up to 21,000 views on YouTube! My 5 minutes of fame Hope you guys all had a good week.

Had my worst week in quite a while. I'm not really entirely sure why, but it seems like I've fallen into an acute amotivational state. We've begun planning and preparations to move out of our apartment at the end of April, but the new condo is not yet completed (or certified for occupancy by the city) yet. So, we will likely end up moving to our lake house for a couple of months, and moving all our furniture into storage. Once the condo is completed, then we'll (finally) move in there. I think I'm just having some stress over all of this - especially all the uncertainty of it all. We can't (or won't) stay in the apartment, because they are wanting to more than double our rent to go "monthly". On the plus side, living "rent-free" at the lake house for a few months could actually be a bit of a financial bonanza, and the fishing should be really good in May and June...

Just realized that we're on Daylight Savings Time starting today. I hate that nonsense. Anyhoo, I got my assignment for the next Jazz collaboration project. I'll be soloing over the 8 bar "B" section of Autumn Leaves. I had a solo I put together over a year ago that I was going to use but decided to come up with something new. After all, you're supposed to be able to improvise this stuff on the fly. The least I could do is compose a new solo for an 8 bar section that is about 15 seconds of music. Last week I upgraded my subscription to Frank Vignola's Truefire Channel from $10 to the $20 a month tier. I'm happy with that decision. He teaches some really good stuff there.
