Not much to say this week. I'm just plugging away. My formerly gimpy fretting hand is starting to adjust to ramping up my work load. I got a little distracted on Thursday when a new firmware dropped for my Helix LT. Really liking the update (Line 6 introduced a completely new "cab engine" which is the predominant change) but it broke my DAW and I spent most of Friday troubleshooting and ultimately (and with success) implemented a workaround Line 6 support recommended (rolling back to the prior Helix ASIO driver). Everything now seems to work.
The new cab modeling sort of refreshes the experience of playing through the helix. I imagine a good fraction of that impression is just some psychological artifact that exists primarily in my mind, but when I am holding my guitar perception is reality in the moment and anything that sparks a little more interest and encourages me to play another half hour and try a little harder to play well is a good thing in my book. That's a nice feature of a lot of the larger modeling platforms--the current practice is for the developers to provide free updates. In the Helix world every second or third one spiffs things up enough it's almost like getting something new. That saves my bacon (really my wallet) when it comes to refraining from actually buying so much new stuff in search of inspiration. And it's nice when playing guitar is fun instead of being "work". In time the newness will wear off and it will be back to the grind, but having a break in that is nice.

Had a fair week here. Couple of days I only managed the Guitar Aerobics assignment for the day, but no other playing. Sore right wrist yesterday and again today. Not sure what that is from - helped my brother move on Wednesday, hit some golf balls on Thursday, maybe from playing guitar? hopefully will ease up shortly.

Didn't get a whole lot of practice in last week, busy with all kinds of other crap as usual. I decided to give up on "Mr. Crowley," I spent two hours a day for the past month working on those solos and, maybe if I did that for another month, I might get them up to full tempo. But I'm just totally burned out on those solos and completely lost my enthusiasm for them. So I started on "Promises in the Dark" by Pat Benatar. There's a nice piano part at the beginning, some cool rhythm parts, and I've already got the solo memorized - though nowhere near full tempo.
Here's my half-finished version of "MR. Crowley" if anybody's interested.

Jack, I thought those two solos were pretty impressive - even if you didn't have them up to 100% speed! I agree whole-heartedly with you - if you've spent a more than reasonable amount of time on something, and you're burned out on it, it is time to put it away and move on to something else! This is supposed to be a fun hobby!

I feel I give my projects a good effort, but well...it's Randy Rhoads for pete's sake and some of his stuff is just beyond me I can always hope to keep improving my technique as the years roll by and perhaps someday do that song justice.
