I had a good week of practice, averaged about two hours a day I think. Just working on Little Wing - I've got the whole rhythm part "memorized", which is to say that if I play it at a slow enough tempo I only forget what comes next about three times. At slightly faster tempos my mind goes completely blank and I have to start over from the beginning It still needs plenty of practice to get it neat and smooth. Jimi likes to switch back and forth between swing feel and straight time which is pretty cool. I got started on the solo, there are a couple of parts that require some work, but it's actually easier than the rhythm part. I ordered some locking tuners for my Strat as there are a couple of tremolo bar dives and the thing goes completely out of tune; the G likes to go up almost a quarter step etc. So hopefully those will help...we'll see Spent a bit of time on the glockenspiel part, I've got the intro and first verse going okay and I'm learning the second verse. I must have listened to Little Wing countless times over the years and never noticed the glockenspiel goes past the intro, but there's lots of stuff going on even during the solo, it's just so far back in the mix you hardly notice it. Which doesn't make it very easy to learn when you can barely hear it in the first place lol. This week I'd like to get the solo memorized, play through the rhythm part a gazillion times until it's actually memorized and I can start moving up the tempo (at about 80% currently), and do some more spieling on my glockenthingie. Hmmm...that sounded kind of dirty

That sounds great, Jack. Right now I could really use some of the drive - my week was pretty bad. If it wasn't for BLYCU commitment, I wouldn't get anything worked out.

The best I can say is that I picked up a guitar every day. Lots of things going on to disrupt my day-to-day rhythm, and it definitely affects not only the time I have for guitar, but the quality of focus with it.

Only picked up the guitar for a few minutes one day this week. I'm afraid this pattern is going to hold until I am completely done with the work thing - which fortunately is only 2 1/2 weeks now! Have to work next weekend, but that will be the last weekend I will ever have to work - so even though I've been really busy lately, life is definitely looking upward on the near horizon!

You're in the home stretch! About 6 more weeks for me. Trying to get a house ready to sell, figure out where/how I'm going to live, and winding down the ol' career all at the same time is a bit too much. I feel like I'm never going to get to take a deep breath and relax again.

I'm really happy to hear about Bruce's and Grampa's upcoming retirements. Congrats to both of you. You will not regret this decision. I turned on my amp for the 1st time in months the other day. The Frank Vignola group project has renewed my enthusiasm. I practiced my harmonized part and came up with an 8-bar solo. I took ideas from various sources and combined them with my own ideas. I'm very happy with the resulting solo. It almost sounds like music. Now I just have to practice it and get it recorded.

The locking tuners did the trick - I can dive-bomb to my heart's content and she stays in tune now

Late to post was at the beach. Got some guitar time in everyday, working on Blues Bossa still.
