Here's a link to my take on "Cool Shade": Did this one again all with the same guitar, same clothes. Probably doesn't look quite as good as the last one... I'll continue to play around with 'em. Bruce

Nicely done, Bruce. Yeah, I think the video on the last one was better for some reason. I especially liked the split screen. However, your sound is still just as good. Man, you get that cool Jazz sound even from the Strat.
Does "Jazzin' the Blues" come with backing tracks? On your last video the rolling credits at the end indicate that you created your own backing track.

Thanks, Phil. The wonders of modeling software...
Jazzin' The Blues comes with each lesson played twice - once thru with just the rhythm guitar part (plus bass and drums), and then played thru with the lead plus rhythm parts (plus bass and drums). You could certainly record the lead part over the rhythm backing track, but each lesson includes learning the rhythm part plus learning the lead part. I wanted to play both the rhythm AND the lead part. On my first video, I had just recorded myself playing the rhythm part twice, then played the lead part over the second chorus. There was no other backing. I thought it sounded kind of "bare". So on the last two, I've made a drum and bass part using a program called Band In A Box. Overall, I'm happy with the "fuller" band sound.
I'm also just learning to use iMovie, so I'm playing around with things like captions, transitions, etc. I think I liked the split screen, too, and will probably go back to it in the future.

Learning the lessons and doing all the technical chores to create the videos must keep you pretty busy. I'm impressed! You sound great, but just as importantly, it's obvious you're enjoying yourself.

Thanks, TommyD. Taking this on has forced me not only to practice my guitar, but I'm also learning about using iMovie and Logic (a video program and an audio recording program). Yes, it's been fun, and hopefully my skills will improve in all of these areas! Anyone who is intimidated by trying to make a video, my advice is JUST DO IT! Nike advertisements aside, I think hearing yourself and seeing yourself offers good insight into your playing, gives you things to work on. Plus, putting these out on Youtube will let other guitar students see what "Jazzin' The Blues" is about, whether it is something they'd be interested in learning.

T-bone,
Good to see you back on the forum! Thanks for the watch and the feedback. Yeah, I think that getting behind the beat or "in the pocket" is one of the toughest things about blues and jazz. I'm thinkin' it will come in time...
