Got some playing done and recorded this piece from the other site.
The first three choruses are as written, the fourth was my made up effort in the same vain/style. I think it wasn't a bad effort on my part.
Nice up-tempo feel. Enjoy

Very nice, WPB! Wish I'd been that productive this week. Working too much, missed Friday and Saturday - I really hate those "skip" days. Oh, well. Did watch some YT videos about trying to improve recordings and mixes, but that probably won't help as much as actually practicing! Also did cave in and bought the Yamaha THR 10 ii WL. Seems like a pretty cool little amp. I know the forum routine regarding new equipment - I'll try to record a video with it sometime. Gone to the lake for the long US holiday weekend this weekend.

Nice playing WPB. You're certainly making more progress than I am.
I didn't get much guitar playing in last week. I missed 4 days in a row. I haven't done that in a long time. I got hung up working on my blog. Posted 2 new installments on the Jazz Blues series. Some of you might find it interesting (maybe Bruce and Marc). It's very time consuming doing the tab, prepping and inserting the images, and writing it. Then my damn website started to get hinky. Images weren't loading, sound clips weren't playing on any browser. It was a mess. I spent a couple of entire days adjusting, uninstalling, re-installing, and pulling the last of my hair out. I couldn't find a solution. After all that the whole thing suddenly started working again. It just self-corrected. WTF? Hopefully, I'll get back into some kind of routine this week. I've really fallen behind the past 2 months. It'll be interesting to see if I remember how to play some of the songs I had memorized but haven't played in weeks.

Cool stuff WPB! Really enjoyed that. Kind of a crummy week for me - my back was almost back to normal so - being an idiot - I decided to put new rain gutters on the back of the house. A whole month's worth of recovery wiped out in one day Oh well, I can still carry a case of beer up the stairs so the family's decided to keep feeding me for the time being at least. Still working on "The Unforgiven." The classical guitar part is getting better, and I've almost got the pre-solo solo sounding good. With a bit more polish maybe I can get something recorded this week. Still have the solo, main rhythm part, rhythm part under the solo, and a few other bits to do though. Phil, good to know I'm not the only one with that kind of luck with computers. Whatever I set out to do, I know that's going to be 10% of the work. The other 90% of the job will be figuring out why the hell it won't work. Bruce, congrat's on the new amp! I think there's a one week maximum before a video is required

WPB, good work as usual, I must say you have a fantastic work rate for getting new tunes recorded. The "other" site is really showing results for you.
Bruce, enjoy the new amp, its a great recording tool. I still use my THR10C a lot for practice, and my last few recordings posted on the licks challenge were recorded using just the THR without any added effects etc.
As far as the licks challenge goes, I've now got all of the licks under my fingers good enough I thing to start putting together a final compilation of all of the licks. I do not have them all in my memory box by any means and cannot play them on the fly over the backing track. My intension is to do a arrangement that I can learn to play over the 4 rounds of the backing track, probably starting with the suggested 12 bar solo from the book.
Phil, coincidently, my reaper has been playing up as well, changing pitch and slowing down all by itself. After playing around for a while I worked the malfunctioning was due to my Scarlett interface. I adjusted a few settings and has been ok now for the last couple of days. I may need to reload drivers as my windows 10 had a major update yesterday.

I may need to reload drivers as my windows 10 had a major update yesterday. My ASIO settings were screwed up maybe 4-6 weeks ago - seemed to be getting clipping while recording even though all levels were just fine. I tried everything under the sun to fix it, because who the hell thinks to check if the sample rate and buffer size all of a sudden decided to set themselves to something different? Was also having a problem with tracks going out of sync with each other but I think one of Reapers updates fixed that.

Nice playing wpb. Craptastic guitar week for me. Too many hours in the office exacerbated by taking on a new role that's a stretch and then some for me technically. With under 7 months to go in my professional career, I'm really not enthused to expend the effort required. I'm going to try to throw something down for the prior episode of Bruce's Challenge this afternoon. I usually don't like trying to record things I don't feel good about playing, usually walk away with negative vibes. But I'm going to do it anyway just so I can say I completed the entire first section (assuming I get something down for the current episode). Just this morning I took a first look at the current Challenge's four bars. The last beat of the second bar trips me up something awful, and the final bar is a little difficult to finger, but maybe I can get it under control. Still working the intro to Electric Gypsy. How I handle it with my fretting hand is an ever-evolving process that increasingly requires movements my fingers/hand doesn't want to make. Progress is very slow.
I'm reading Effortless Mastery (drawing a blank on the author) which is a book intended for musicians far more gifted than I trying to master jazz improvisation. It deals largely with the psychological, and being oriented towards piano and horn players it's applicable only in the most general sense to guitar. But it has encouraged me to spend a little time each day doing a contemplative deep dive on some small item like a chord shape or short melodic phrase. It's an attempt to apply some of the ideas of the book on a level suitable for my skill level. It's a nice break from trying to crank out recordings with a production line mentality. While I have a shortage of guitar time isn't a great time to add in something new, but that's where I find myself nonetheless.

I had a good week on the guitar. It's going to get worse as I have to ramp up my studies for a tech certification i have next week. I've been working on some drills from another site focusing on alternative picking. What I is called lazy picking, some times it's alternative picking, some times is economy picking, but it's always sloppily played. I really enjoy those kind of drills and i really see the progress. I'll likely go back to some lead, licks and BYCU after this certification is over. I'm getting bored of the rhythm work.
Been doing some quarantine cleaning. I found my old small stone, but it's not working. Another project for another day.
The most important lesson i found is every day pick up the guitar.
wannaplayblues - Killing it again. One thing i noticed is your use of triads, something i've been learning about. Nicely done
bluesbruce - Happy new gear day to ya!!! enjoy it. I've seen a few of those on the used market recently, I'd lie if said I was not tempted. Would love to hear your thoughts after you have had it a while.
Phil I like your blog, I find it sometimes over my head. I wanted to dig into your Jazz Blues series more. Thanks for putting it all together.

Thanks, Marc, and thanks for letting me know that images and audio weren't loading properly. I think you'll find the Jazz Blues Progression series very easy to understand if you start with the 1st article and work thru the examples. I explained things the way I wish someone had explained them to me. If you have any questions just ask in the comment section of the blog.
